“Joint Symposium between Yamagata University and Kyushu University 2014” On 30th to 31st of October, “Joint Symposium with Yamagata University and Kyushu University 2014” was held at Yamagata University. On Day 1, Prof. Kido (YU) and Prof. Adachi (KU) ran a panel discussion and students made poster presentations.
Field trip to Ishinomaki At 1st of November, we went to Ishinomaki, where The Great East Japan Earthquake severely raged. Coming to realize that millions of people used to lead their lives there, we were overwhelmed by harshness of the nature.
Leading Education (Mr. Jun Mizuno) Mr. Kazutoshi Mizuno, former supervisor of the Nissan GT-R project, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., gave a special lecture on leadership and teamwork based on his experiences.
“Science of Molecular Systems for Devices” (M1)
(Prof. Prof. Sergei Dzyuba) During the last week of November, students had intensive lessons on the discipline called the “Science of Molecular Systems for Devices” that were taught by by Prof. Sergei Dzyuba of Texas Christian University (USA). The lectures aimed to enable the M1 students to understand advanced organic chemistry in English from a molecular perspective.

including having L-YREP orientation and meeting with their

M2 students had the 2nd
guidance for their Overseas
Training (International Boot
Camp) by Assoc. Prof. Emi
Makino and Assis. Prof. Joseph Hui. The training will take
place during the 3rd year of the Leading Program and
they are preparing steadily.
【Practical Scientific English : L-
YREP】M1 students had the
guidance for L-YREP(Leading
Young Researchers English
Program)which was a four-week
study abroad program
implemented at San Jose State University in California
between Jan.26th to Feb. 20th with the full support of Kyushu
University California Office. Students will develop their
global mindset as well as English communication skills during
the program. They will also learn the reality of innovation
and entrepreneurship through taking part in the field trips to
top universities and companies, and receiving lectures from
entrepreneurs and venture capitalists in Silicon Valley.

【Leading Education: Special Lecture】 On March 4th,
Mr.Taizo Son (President & CEO, MOVIDA JAPAN, Inc.)
and Mr. Osamu Ogasawara(CEO, ABBALab Co., Ltd.
and CEO, nomad Co., Ltd.)gave a special lecture
"Play in the Global Environment" at Kyushu University.
【Leading Education : Workshop】After the special
lecture, our students had a closed-door workshop.
They asked Mr. Son and Mr. Ogasawara eagerly and
had fruitful conversations with them.

A special Lecture by Dr.
Matsuo from the CA office
of Kyushu University was held
in the afternoon of January
28t, and then on LP students
had a Pizza Party with the
SJSU students at night. At this
party, all of the LP students
introduced themselves in
English to the SJSU students.

On January 30th, our
students visited
Pharmacyclics, Inc., Apple
Corps and Google. One of
the purposes of L-YREP is to
develop their global
mindset as well as English
communication skills. They
have also learned the
reality of innovation and
entrepreneurship through
taking part in the field trips
to top universities and
companies, and receiving
lectures from entrepreneurs
and venture capitalists in
Silicon Valley.

Our students had a two-day
“final presentation of L-YREP
2014” on February 17th and
18th. The grand prize of the
first day went to Mr. Nagao.
