STEP2Atthetopleftcornerofall3.5″x6.5″rectangles,laya2″squareRSTwiththediagonallinepointedtouppercentreoftherectangle.Sewontheline.Pressseamonleftsideofallrectanglesthesamedirection.Trimbottom2layersto1⁄4″seamallowance.Repeatthisstepforallofthe64rectangles.

STEP3RepeatStep2byplacinga2″squareonthetoprightsideoftherectanglewithdiagonallinepointedtothecentre.Sewontheline,trimseamallowance,andpresstheseamintheoppositedirectionthantheleftsidesquareinStep2.Opposingseamswillmakeiteasiertopiecethetwosectionstogetherlater.Repeatthisstepforall64rectangles.

STEP4Layallofmatchingrectanglesinpairssidebyside.Placea3.5″squareRSTonthebottomendoftheleftrectanglewithdiagonallinepointingtolowerbottomright.AsinStep2,sewontheline,pressallseamsinthesamedirectionandtrimbottom2layersto1⁄4″seamallowance.Repeatthisbythenlayinga3.5″squareonbottomrightsideoftheRightrectanglewiththediagonallinepointingtolowerleftcorner.Youwillwanttopresstheseamintheoppositedirectionthanthatoftheleftrectangle,foreasewhenpiecing.

STEP5AfterapplyingStep4toallofyourmatchingrectangles,youcannowyoucansewyourpairstogether!Youshouldendupwith32heartblocksallinall.

AssemblingyourquilttopSTEP6Referringtothediagrambelow,layyourquiltblocksoutin7rowswiththe3.5″x6.5″backgroundfabricrectanglesinbetweeneachheartblock.Trytobalancethelayoutoftheblockssothereisagood,

evenmixofbolderandsoftercolouredheartsthroughout.Putthe6Mortimerrectanglesmeasuring5″x6″atthebeginningandendoftherowswhereindicatedinthediagram.STEP7Onceyouarehappywithyourlayout,sewtheblockstogetherintorows.ThenyoucansewtherowstogethertomakeyourCentreBlock!STEP8Stitchfourofthe3.5″stripsofbackgroundfabricaroundtheCentreBlocktocreatethefirstborder,andsquareitup.

STEP9Stitchthe34x6.5″stripsofyourprintedfabrictogethertomakeonelongstrip,thenstitchthistothe1stborderontheCentreBlocktocreateasecond‘Scrappy’border.Insteadofmaking4individualpieces,makeonelongborderstripyoucanjuststitchdownonesideofthecentreblock,cuttherestofthestripoff,stitchdownthenextsideandsoon…withouthavingtomeasureandcutallofthepiecesatthebeginning.

STEP10Stitchtheremainderofthebackgroundfabricintoonelongstriptocreatethirdandfinalborder,whichyoucanthenattachtotheScrappyborder.

STEP11Lastly,youwillneedtostitchthe34WOFx2″stripsfromyourfat16stogethertomakeyourbeautifulScrappybinding.Foldinhalfandiron.
