LNG Training Courses
LNG Liquefaction ProjectsA North America Focus
22-24 March 2017 - Houston
About the Course
A decade ago, the USA was expected to be the major market for LNG from stranded gas resources around the world. However, the growth in the available gas supply from shale and low costs of producing this gas have generated an entirely new paradigm in the LNG industry. A wave of new liquefaction capacity has been developed in the USA and is now starting to enter a well-supplied global LNG market. While many aspects of these new LNG projects are similar to the existing LNG projects around the world, these North American LNG projects also present new challenges, business models and opportunities. This course has been designed to provide both an introduction to the LNG industry in general and a very specific grounding in the new features of the North America LNG industry.
The course will cover in depth these new features, such as: gas procurement from a liquid market rather than from a dedicated and stranded gas field; plant construction within a highly developed industrial infrastructure rather than a remote site; new business models, such as tolling; new technologies such as electric compressor drives; new marketing challenges from LNG not sold to end users on long term contracts; and new regulatory and political situations.
Poten’s Michael Tusiani, as well as being one of the pioneers of the industry, is also the principle author of the industry’s standard textbook: Fuel for a Changing World: LNG a Non-Technical Guide; 2nd Edition. Alongside Poten’s Gordon Shearer, Mr. Tusiani published this book to provide a complete guide to the industry, covering the commercial, trading and technical aspects. The course uses the book as its text book and will be provided as pre-reading and reference material. The Second Edition of the book has been extensively updated and covers the commercial realities of the LNG business in the latter half of the 2010’s.
Poten’s North America LNG Course will provide a sound foundation of knowledge on the LNG industry but has been specifically developed to give the course participants the tool kit needed to deal with today’s LNG market realities of a large volume of LNG appearing from the USA.
Who Should Attend
Staff who are moving into a management role developing or covering a US LNG asset, including an LNG tolling contract or LNG SPA. Staff in other countries who need to understand the impact of North America LNG on the natural gas market in their country.
Sound understanding of the fundamental economics of North American LNG Exports
Fuel for a Changing World: LNG a Non-Technical Guide is recognized as the
official industry text book, written by Poten chairman, Michael Tusiani.
Fuel for a Changing World: LNG a Non-Technical Guide
Our objectives in the course will be to both inspire the participants with the benefits of the LNG industry and provide a sound understanding of the fundamental economics of the industry. These economics are driven by the technology and the market. We will explain what you need to know about these to be effective in the industry.
Building on these foundations, we can deal with how to implement projects
and what may change how we do this. Real projects are implemented through an interlinked framework of contracts that define each party’s roles, rewards, risks and responsibilities. We will provide an introduction to these. We will deal with the challenges of selling and managing a portfolio of North American LNG in the global marketplace.
