Land, Language, Relationships and Culture

Hillary Hinds is the Math Consultant at the MLTC. She was born in Jamaica and currently resides in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. Hillary is passionate about teaching values and the teaching and learning of mathematics; focusing primarily on (a) the root causes of students struggling with math, (b) workplace mathematics and First Nations Land-based Math, and (c) finding creative ways of teaching math. As a Math consultant at MLTC Hillary works with administrators, and provide support in Math to K-12 teachers primarily in the areas of instructional strategies, assessment, data analysis, planning and RTI.

Hillary is excited to be a part of the MLTC staff and to be working with the communities.

Teaching Geometry from a First Nations Context: A Hands-on Approach

In this session teachers will be engaged in hands-on application of teaching Geometry in a First Nations context. We will

demonstrate how learners can learn from their everyday environment, how teachers can build relationships and make

connections with students while engaging learners in the math classroom.
