OVERVIEWThis pattern is worked form the top down. You'll cast on a the number of
stitches suggested for your size and join in the round. The lace pattern
is made by alternating rounds of plain knitting and rounds of double
yarn-overs and decreases (explained below). There are 2 rounds in the
pattern where you'll be instructed to increase stitches. You'll loosely
bind off at the bottom hem. Finally, you'll make four i-cords and fasten
them onto the work for tank top straps.
If instructions in the pattern are different in different sizes, they'll be
written in parentheses: XS (S, M, L, XL). The numbers in the pattern are
a reference but since there are only 2 increase rounds, you can make as
many or few rounds of each section as you'd like! This adjustable,
beginner friendly pattern comes with a video tutorial which may be
especially helpful to demonstrate the unique double yarn-overs. You
can find that video tutorial HERE or on my YouTube channel.
PatternCast on 128 (136, 144, 160, 184) sts, join in the rnd and place a marker.
Rnds 1-3: knit all sts
Rnd 4: *k2tog, yo twice, ssk* rep to end of rnd
Rep rnds 1-3. On the rnd after the yarn overs, knit into the first yo normally,
and knit the 2nd yo through the back loop.
Rnd 8: *ssk, k2tog, yo twice* (don't forget to end the rnd with a double yo
before the marker).
rep rnds 1-3
Rnd 12: *yo twice, ssk, k2tog*
Rep rnds 1-12 (24 rnds), then rep rnds 1-7 and rather than a "rnd 8", knit
one more rnd (32 rnds total).
Increase rnd: *yo, k1* rep to end of rnd.
Rep rnds 1-12 four times (48 rnds),Then knit 1 more rnd.
Work another increase rnd, knit 4 more rnds and bind off
Optional 3rd tier: To make a 3rd tier of the lace pattern, after the 2nd
increase round, repeat rnds 1-12 for a total of 120 rnds, then rep rnds 1-7
and rather than a "rnd 8", knit one more row (128 rnds total) then bind off.
Front and back panels (to attach straps)
Pick up every other stitch along the cast on edge for 22 (24, 25, 29,
34)sts. Knit back and forth for 6 rows, bind off. Skip 20 (20, 22, 22, 24) sts
along the cast on edge and repeat, picking up every other st for 22 (24, 25,
29, 34)sts to knit the 2nd panel. (20 ((20, 22, 22, 24)) sts unworked, each
underarm).
Straps
Create four i-cords about 2-3 stitches wide and 20" (50cm) long. Attach
one i-cord at each corner of the upper panels we just knit.
