This year, celebrating his 20th anniversary in panto is King’s
favourite, Gerard Kelly. To help us mark this extraordinary
achievement we were privileged to be joined by one of the all-
time greats, Stanley Baxter. Having both started their King’s
panto careers in Mother Goose, Stanley in 1971 and Gerard in
1989, they have pride of place in our panto history and are
part of what makes it so special.
‘My memories of the King’s Theatre date back to the early
1930s. One always hoped to create a special bond with the
audience - you had to. Like my television specials, I strived
to emulate similar production values in my pantos - it’s
important for the audience. The spectacle should always
be something to knock their eyes out!’
Stanley Baxter 2009
So, as you sit and watch our spectacular £1 million production
of Aladdin, take a second to think of the many stars who have
graced the King’s stage and helped make our pantomime
the biggest and best in Scotland.
This year, you’ll be enjoying the festivities from our brand
new seats in the Stalls and Grand Circle. With Phase 1 of our
restoration now complete, we’re looking ahead to Phase 2
when we will be installing air conditioning and replacing seats
in the Upper Circle and Gallery. The restoration of this
beautiful theatre ensures that the King’s panto, and many
other great shows, can be enjoyed by generations to come.
Be part of the King’s history by dedicating a seat from
as little as £300. For more information, please contact

COUNT ARTHURSTRONGTHE MAN BEHIND THE SMILE
Following the smash-hit success of his
BBC Radio 4 comedy series (Sony GOLD
Award Winner - Best Radio Comedy
2009) and sell-out tour, Count Arthur
Strong, showbiz legend and raconteur,
reminds us just what we've been
missing since his last television series,
The Robin Hood Club, was axed in 1960
something. As Arthur himself says,
'Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could
just turn the telly on after a hard day at
the abattoir - or whatever it is you do-
and there I was, smiling back at you,
in my own programme again.'

Fiddler on the Roof is one of the most popular and most
performed of all Broadway musicals, having opened in 1964
with Zero Mostel creating the role of Tevye.
Its music contains many songs which have become so
well known including If I Were a Rich Man, Sunrise Sunset,
and Matchmaker. Follow the story of Tevye and his five
daughters as he tries to hold on to his family and religious
traditions, while time and outside events intrude upon
their lives.
The Orpheus Club is proud to present a brand new staging of
this classic show, allowing the lyrics and music to stand by
themselves while the moving story is presented starkly and
boldly to theatre audiences, challenging them to look at
Fiddler on the Roof from an entirely new perspective.

After the success of their 2009 production of Chess, PMOS are
proud to be staging the Glasgow amateur premiere of the Tony
Award-winning Broadway musical The Producers.
Max Bialystock, a failed Broadway producer, together with his
rather meek accountant, Leo Bloom, decide to stage a Broadway
flop. They have come to the conclusion that they can make more
money with a failure than they can with a success. So Max and
Leo search New York for the worst script they can find. Their
foolproof scheme gets complicated when their crass and totally
tasteless production turns out to be a huge hit with the public.
Adapted from Mel Brooks’ 1968 film by the man himself,
this hilarious musical comedy opened on Broadway in 2001
where it won 12 Tony Awards. Featuring new music specially
written by Mel Brooks for the Broadway stage, with songs
including Springtime for Hitler and When You Got It, Flaunt It,
he has created a laugh-a-minute musical comedy
which is not to be missed.

JUST FOR JOEJust for Joe is a genuine, honest
and often very funny one-woman
account of a singer’s life. As a young
working class girl living in Lanarkshire,
Brenda Cochrane realised her destiny,
whether she liked it or not, was to
become a singer. Her huge talent did
not always bring her happiness and at
times she tried to hide from the
pressures to succeed in a music
business that was more interested in
looks and glamour than ability.
Following a highly successful tour of
Scotland, Brenda is thrilled to return

PETER PAN
WORLD PREMIEREALL CHILDREN GROW UP, EXCEPT ONE
In 2010 the National Theatre of Scotland brings Peter Pan
home, presenting a brand new version, especially for families,
of one of the most influential and magical stories ever told
by a Scottish writer.
Directed by the National Theatre of Scotland’s own Olivier
Award-winning John Tiffany (Black Watch) and written by multi
award-winning Scottish playwright David Greig (Midsummer,
Yellow Moon) this Peter Pan reimagines the Darling family
in Victorian Edinburgh with all its mists, gas-lamps,
bridges and mystery.
Peter’s impish arrival into the lives of Wendy, John and
Michael is the beginning of a thrilling, deliciously naughty,
eerie escapade. Together they take off on a fantastical flight
to the colourful wonderful Never Land, an enchanted
place of vivid characters.
Razor-sharp sword fights, virtuoso flying sequences, acrobats,
fire-eaters, ticking crocodiles and one great big hook will ensure
the whole family is drawn into this other-worldly distinctly
Caledonian adventure.
Peter Pan is ideal for the young at heart aged 7 and over.

From the producers of smash hit rock ‘n’ roll musicals
including Dreamboats and Petticoats, The Roy Orbison Story
and Elvis The Musical, comes Laughter In The Rain, a brand
new show based on the rise, fall and rise again of pop
music’s ultimate survivor...Neil Sedaka.
With a career spanning six decades, including nine smash hit
singles (three of which became Number One), Neil Sedaka has
been inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, had a street
named after him in his hometown of Brooklyn, and was given
a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. From the innocent 50s
to the cynical 70s and beyond, he has written and performed
some of the world’s most beloved pop songs including
Oh, Carol, Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, Happy Birthday
Sweet Sixteen, Solitaire, Calendar Girl, Amarillo,
Laughter in the Rain and many more.
Laughter In The Rain - a remarkable story of triumph

This critically acclaimed production of Andrew
Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman’s Whistle Down
the Wind is set to thrill audiences once again as it returns
to the King’s Theatre for one week only.
An extraordinary and uplifting tale about the transforming
power of love, Whistle Down the Wind is based on the beloved
60s film starring Hayley Mills, and features numerous multi-
award-winning songs, including Boyzone’s international hit,
No Matter What.
The bright-eyed and youthful Swallow discovers a mysterious
man hiding in her family’s barn. When she asks for his identity
the first words he utters are, ‘Jesus Christ’. While the rest of
the townspeople are searching for a fugitive escaped from jail,
Swallow gathers the town’s children who make a pact to protect
their new found saviour from the cruelties of the outside world.
Truly inspiring, Whistle Down the Wind shows how powerful
love can be when the innocence of childhood collides with
the cynicism of the adult world.
