GIRLS DAY OUT! What a way to end a great week!
On Friday, Kellie from St Vincent de
Paul and Ms Van Loo took 12 Year 7 girls on a Girls Day Out.
We went shoe shopping, then we went to the movies and out for lunch at Hogs Breath Cafe.
At the movies we saw 'Rango'. It was so funny we were laughing the whole
time.
Kellie then selected the three best behaved girls and bought them a pair of shoes.
The lucky girls were Shaina Lea-Johnson, Shania Stratton and Bronte Williamson-Fowles.
It was the best day ever. It was AWESOME!! Thanks so much to Kellie and Ms Van Loo for taking us.

EASTER HOLIDAYS Term 1 finishes: Friday 8 April.
Pupil free day: Wednesday 27 April.
Term 2 commences: Thursday 28 April.
Short pants that end slightly above the knee.
Mondays Extreme Weather Conditions
Despite water leaks in science laboratories and some classrooms Kanahooka High School remained relatively unscathed on the day.
I was particularly impressed with the level of co-operation of students
who followed instructions not to enter flooded sections of the playground and for the most part stay dry.
I also take the opportunity to thank parents for their understanding and patience at the end of the day when I was directed by the
Department of Education, acting on advice from the Police, to detain students after the final bell. It was certainly an unusual direction, but given the inundation and chaos on our roads, it was not unreasonable.
As it eventuated the 10 minutes delay, enabled students to leave school and go home during a spell in the weather.

Ski Trip Reminder
Students intending to go on the ski trip should now
be paying their money off
in regular instalments to the front office.
Harmony Day Once again “Harmony Day” celebrations were a huge success. Delicious foods were enjoyed by all and this
gave many of us a chance to taste a wide variety of different dishes from places such as Japan, Mexico, China, India, Spain, Turkey, Britain, South Africa and many more.
Ms Thatcher and Ms Abarcia would like to thank all students, parents and staff who contributed to the success of the day.
This is only possible with the involvement and contribution made by all.
A very special thanks to Mr and Mrs Abarcia who
came into the school to delight us all with their “churros”.
“Harmony Day” is a non profit day, the money made from the sale of the food has in the past
been used to support St Jude school in Africa. This year we hope to be able to use the money to sponsor a child from a third world country.
Further information will follow in future newsletters.

Seasons For Growth - Grief & Loss Program Do you know, love or care for someone experiencing mental illness? Have you experienced a sense of loss and/or grief as a result of being on that
caring journey? Would you like to learn more about coping with change, loss and grief?
We believe that when carers receive the information, training and support
they need, care giving can be a positive and life enhancing role.
Seasons for Growth was developed by the organisation Good-Grief. It is a
program for adults who have experienced significant change or loss. It is based on the belief that change, loss and grief are a normal and valuable part of life. We examine the impact of changes and explore how we can
learn to live with and grow from these experiences.

STUDENT DIARIES By bringing your diary every day, students are able to document their homework and assignments. Students will be able to plan their study for
subjects over the week.
The benefit of using a diary is that it helps to manage student homework
and assignments more efficiently and develops organisation skills.
The major benefit of bringing your school diary every day is that every
student has their own personalised timetable in their diary, which minimises the need to wander between classes.
Student movements for out of class and sick bay can be monitored through
the use of the school diary.
In short by carrying your student diary you will feel more in control and
ready to learn.
Cyber Safety - The dangers of talking to strangers online The internet has exposed a whole new world of creeps and strangers to the world and the dangers of talking to strangers like them online are just the same as talking to strangers in the
real world. With fast growing Social Networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook now dominating the lives of youths and of the dangers involved with talking online, parents can help
out in ways such as these:
Education on the ways these people can pose dangers.
Limiting & monitoring private information that you put on the internet.
Only talking to people you actually know on the internet.
If these ways are put into practice, the risks of being in danger online can be greatly reduced.
