Through my travels this summer, across town and in the mountains, I have noticed more butterflies this year than I have in years. It must be from the wet winter, providing water for the plants that become the food for the butterflies. While hiking, I unconsciously started humming Schumann’s Papillions. We, as music teachers, provide the water and food source for our little caterpillar students to to devour & digest, then process/incubate in their cocoon. Then, after a time, they emerge in their full glory, flitting from house to school to church to private ensembles, or quiet solitude, spreading the beauty of music to all around them.

I love the Certificate of Merit program precisely because it provides that nutritient-rich musical water to grow and thrive. My own early musical training was in a cultural desert and severely lacking. I do not want that for my own students. The foundations of CM provide such a solid footing for students to more easily pursue any type of musical adventure/migration they desire. In short, they are well-rounded musicians that can adapt to any musical setting with confidence.

Please mark your calendar to attend our only mandatory meeting of the year, outlining not only Certificate of Merit, but all of our other programs that are managed by our wonderful members. These programs not only enhance the education of our students, but ourselves as well. This is your chance to “Be in the Know”

Dr.#Watson#chose#the#trio#playing#the#first#movement#of#Paul#Schoenfield's#"Cafe#Music"#as#the#outstanding#trio.#ParIcipants#were;#AusIn#Chen,#student#of#Teri#Watson,#Aaron#To,#student#of#Gary#Hung#and#staff#member/teacher#Hanna#Ling.

Special#CommendaIon#was#given#to#the#trio#playing#"Oblivion"#by#Piazzola.#ParIcipants#were;#Ruth#Thibault,#student#of#Teri#Watson,#John#Son,#student#of#Leslie#Ho#and#Kaitlin#Kim,#student#of#Hanna#Ling.#Special#CommendaIon#was#also#given#to#Karissa#Dole,#student#of#Joanne#Baker,#JusIn#Chao,#student#of#Hanna#Kim#and#ChrisIe#Bao,#student#of#Teri#Watson.#This#group#played#a#movement#of#a#Mozart#trio.
