The Hakone Open-Air Museum opened in 1969 as the first open-air art

museum in Japan, founded by Nobutaka

Shikanai, retired president of Japan's largest communications

conglomerate, the Fujisankei Group. The Museum is located in

grand nature of Hakone that was once called one of the most rugged paths in Japan. The garden with a view of the mountains of Hakone and changing four seasons provides an ideal

outdoor setting to show oversized sculptures.

In the gardenthe museum's collections

include about 100 masterpieces of Rodin, Bourdelle, Miro, Henry Moore (26) and others
