News from the Principal…. In Pursuit of Excellence
The Shire Hall had large notices posted on it on Wednesday morning alerting people to the fact that our Year 12 students were sitting their exams there. The English exam is the first for all students at the college studying VCE and the cohort were gathered out the front of the hall in readiness in the morning. Their teacher, Ms Dupuy, our VCE/VCAL Coordinator, Mr Peter Barnes, and myself were there to support the students along with family members as they waited beforehand. Some students will have completed three exams already and be halfway through. Commitment is needed over this period to keeping a strong focus on studies while balancing that with good sleep and nutrition.
It is not only our Year 12 students who will be undertaking final assessments, though. All students will be undergoing a variety of tasks over the upcoming weeks which will measure their growth over this last school year. Areas that receive particular attention are Literacy and Numeracy. Encouraging your child to always do their best will help us to gain the best understanding of their learning as well as provide us with an accurate launching pad for 2018.
Ms Kate Matthews and I attended one of the state-wide Primary Literacy workshops that are part of the
departments actions to reach the education state targets it has set. It was pleasing that the work they were having
us undertake supports the work we have already started with our involvement in the University of Melbourne’s
Network of Schools program.
Positive Community, Positive Outcomes
We have had several new students join the college in the last few weeks and we welcome them and their families. Our students are always eager to meet new people and make new friends so I trust that the transition into the college has been smooth. I encourage our new families to make contact with either the classroom teacher, the advisory teacher or myself if there are any concerns or queries.
An important reminder to all of those families with little ones who are yet to commence school that the first
Tumble Tots session is happening at the stadium on the 13th November. Please make contact with Ms Kerrie Raglus
at the college for further information. You can also look at our college Facebook page to see more details.
I truly hope that this is an opportunity for families to have fun with their little ones here at Rushworth that is
embraced. We are trying to add to the community that we are proudly part of and would love feedback on this
initiative or for you to share other ideas that you may have.
Kind regards and happy reading,

Student Voice Committee has organised a small panel of its members to interview possible new teachers for 2018. This gives some of the students at Rushworth P-12 College opportunity to choose how they would like to be taught, and by who.
The basketball court will be getting a new coat of paint thanks to SVC members. We’re hoping that it’ll be pos-sible to get markings for other sports such as netball and soccer. Students will have more opportunity to be active in this new space and encourage students to play sport who usually wouldn’t.
SVC is planning their strategic plan for the next three years. We’ll use this plan to come up with strategies to fix certain issues in our school so our students will have a healthy learning space.
Students (and parents) are always welcome to drop in their suggestions into our Suggestion Box, located at the Front Office. We love getting suggestions on how we can improve our school and giving a voice to stu-dents.
If you’re interested in joining, or just curious, contact Mr Daff or Dan Newbiggin who will be happy to answer
any of your questions.

YEAR 12 FAREWELL ASSEMBLY Traditions can be over 100 years old, or they can be 20 years old! However old they are, as a College we look for-ward to uphold them every year, and maybe even creating new ones.
One of those ‘new’ traditions is our Year 12 Farewell Assembly—an opportunity to showcase the special relation-ships that can be forged in a Prep—Year 12 school. The Claps of 2017 was certainly excited to be bid farewell by the Prep, One, Two students recently.
Mr Bovell addressed the Class of 2017 and all those assembled and passed on some sage words of advice. VCE VCAL Coordinator Mr Barnes, gave us some insight into the year that was with the Year 12 students. Each Year 12 student then presented a speech or two to their teachers. , some insightful and interesting remarks were made, but all jokes aside, there was respect scattered throughout their speeches, some resilience and a fair bit of respon-sibility, fine values to showcase!
The Class of 2017 are now in the midst of their VCE exams and we will join them all again on the 24 November at their graduation dinner to celebrate their achievements.
The College wishes you all every success in the future.
