News from the Principal…. The last term of the school year is always busy with final planning for 2018 occurring while still ensuring that a

sound and rigorous teaching and learning program is still evident. At this time of the year, when we are all tired

and looking to the finish line, it is more important than ever that we display the behaviours associated with being

respectful, responsible and resilient and we seek your support in reiterating this at home with your children.

In Pursuit of Excellence

I am sure our Year 12 students are wondering where the year has gone. Week 3 of Term 4 is their last week before sitting their first exam on Wednesday the 1st of November. This cohort have impressed with their sense of inclusiveness, strong attendance figures of 93% which is above our target (thank you, thank you, thank you), and generally strong leadership through the modelling of positive behaviours that have been mostly reflective of our 3R’s. We all wish them the best of luck with their exams and want each individual to finish these with the knowledge that they did the very best they could. Respect, Responsibility and Resiliency will be needed to achieve this.

I have written in various newsletters about the fact that teachers have the greatest in-school impact on student

outcomes. Second to that is leadership and so I have set out to strengthen this so that we are achieving strong

education outcomes. At this stage two teachers have been appointed to Leading Teacher positions: Ms Kate

Matthews (Primary School Leader) and Mr Jamie Daff (one of two secondary leaders). I am still searching for a third

person to join the team and will keep you updated. Additionally to these leadership positions, we currently have

advertised a Learning Specialist for the Primary area. Learning Specialists are new positions that are aimed at highly

-skilled teachers who wish to remain in the classroom. If you are aware of anyone who fits this criteria, please

encourage them to apply to join our college community.

Positive Community, Positive Outcomes

Colbinabbin Primary School is celebrating its centenary on the 28th and 29th October. The town has a strong sense of community and I am sure that it will be a successful and enjoyable time. The event runs for the two days, however, I know the school and the community have been preparing for this all year. Undoubtedly, the efforts of all will be rewarded.

Our college participated in the HOPE colour run in the first week back from term. It was good to have staff, students and community members come together to enhance wellbeing in such a fun way. I certainly was an interesting sight in the Staff Learning session that afternoon being all the colours of the rainbow.

I had the pleasure of supervising five Year 7 and 8 students at a

recent sports day in Numurkah. These young people were fine

ambassadors for our college and showed good sportsmanship.

Other students were also out on this day competing in Volleyball

and Lawn Bowls. The reports from the other teachers were very

similar to mine.

I am not surprised. We have great students in our college who

continue to represent us proudly in the community. Thank you

for the work you do to make this happen.

Kind regards and happy reading,

Student Voice Committee has organised a small panel of its members to interview possible new teachers for 2018. This gives some of the students at Rushworth P-12 College opportunity to choose how they would like to be taught, and by who.

The basketball court will be getting a new coat of paint thanks to SVC members. We’re hoping that it’ll be pos-sible to get markings for other sports such as netball and soccer. Students will have more opportunity to be active in this new space and encourage students to play sport who usually wouldn’t.

SVC is planning their strategic plan for the next three years. We’ll use this plan to come up with strategies to fix certain issues in our school so our students will have a healthy learning space.

Students (and parents) are always welcome to drop in their suggestions into our Suggestion Box, located at the Front Office. We love getting suggestions on how we can improve our school and giving a voice to stu-dents.

If you’re interested in joining, or just curious, contact Mr Daff or Dan Newbiggin who will be happy to answer

any of your questions.

DOOKIE DAY The 2017/18 Agriculture Horticulture students along with Mr Daws, joined with several other schools at Dookie Day last week. Students were able to participate in various workshops, listen to presenters and have a look at the breadth of opportunities available in agriculture, and how you can study within the region. From all accounts the students (and Mr Daws) had a wonderful day, and are inspired to see where studying VCE Ag-riculture/Horticulture may take them in the future.. Thanks to Matt Lange - Richards for capturing the photos.

As you can see by the photos on the previous pages the HOPE colour fun run held on the 10 October was a lot of fun and helped spread the message of:

Happiness Optimism Persistence Existence

The colour run was in support of Mental Health Week and 'R U Ok' day.

World Mental Health Day is marked every year on the same date: 10th of October. In 2017, Mental Health Week was run from Sunday 8th to Saturday 14th October. Mental Health Week aims to activate, educate and engage Vic-torians about mental health, through a week of interactive events across the state. State Government of Victoria

It’s normal at various times to feel sad, stressed, angry or anxious. But when these feelings last for longer than usu-al and start to affect your everyday life, it's important to find out what's going on and what you can do about it, Reach Out Australia

The students were given a showbag with some information and goodies which then were able to add to with vis-iting the KESO workers, Headspace, Health workers from Njernda, District Nurses from GV Health and a repre-sentative from the Rushworth Carers Support Group who bought along an array of information for the students to collect also.

A BBQ lunch, fruit and popcorn was supplied for lunch and afternoon tea. We also had the pleasure of having Terry the Tap mascot come along and support the event. We also had face painting, photo booth and outside games run-ning. Concluding the lunchtime activities we proceeded with the colour run starting with Prep children through to year 12 students and staff.

Overall the students feedback was very positive stating they had a great time and enjoyed themselves; many wanting to do another lap of the course as they loved the experience. Many voicing that they would love to have another colour run in the future.

Thank you to all the wonderful and supportive staff, students and visiting health professionals for your support and time given to the event. Without your dedication the day would not of been a success.

Tammy Nancarrow, School Nurse Educator

(A BIG thankyou to the supporters of the event - Rushworth Lion’s Club, Waranga Flicks committee, Bendigo Carers Support Network & Goulburn Valley Water).

Prep - Year 2 News What a great start to the Term the Grade P-2 class has had! We joined in the colour run for Mental Health Week. Many of the students were covered in so many colours, they were unrecognisable. The afternoon was filled with fun and laughter, and something that our kids needed to feel good about themselves!

After the colour run, we welcomed the new Grade Prep students back to our class on Friday. The current Grade Prep, One, Two students were great leaders, and had fun joining in paired reading, and using shaving cream to make alphabet letters. Lots of dancing and laughing happened all morning as well as some additional craft activities. Miss Bannon

Junior Winter Sports - Year 8 Volleyball

The Year 8 Girls Volleyball team, comprised of four year 7’s and two year 8’s performed magnificently on Wednesday. Coming up against some very strong competition the girls displayed excellent team spirit, encouraging each other to focus on their successes and to not dwell on the strength of other teams. This display of resilience, respect and responsibility was most affectively demonstrated in their final match in which they managed to come from 1 set down against Shepparton High School A to win the second set and take out the match by 1 point in the dying seconds of the game. Each of the members of this team should be congratulated on their tenacious performance. Congratulations girls!!!
