The course is divided into two halfs each worth fifty percent of the overall grade.

EXAMThere are two questions.

The first will focus on an unseen extract (superhero movie) where you will analyse the scene.

The second will be to discuss the themes and content within a film chosen, Bend it Like Beckham

CourseworkThere are two parts to the coursework

The first is to analyse and research a film of your choice which will include target audience and methods of distribution and exhibition.

The second will be to produce a short film / opening of a film. This will include planning, production and post-produciton working within a group in a chosen role.

Micro AnalysisMicro Analysis will help you understand how meaning is created in films. It is basically the ‘Language of Film’

You will be focusing on Mise-en-scene and ONE of the following areas:

• Cinematography (framing, camera angles and movement, shot size, focus)

• Sound (Diegetic and Non-Diegetic, parallel and contrapuntal, sound bridges, ambient sound and sound effects)

• Editing (Types of edits, pace of editing and special effects)
