100 KV X-Ray Spectrograph

Design changes on this 100 KV X-Ray Spectrograph include automatic crystal changer with three crystals, "piggy" back arrangement of scintillation and flow proportional counters, and im­proved signal-to-noise ratio for high atomic number elements. "K" line up to Bi (No. 83) can be determined qualitatively; "K" lines up to Sn (No. 50) can be determined quantitatively using voltages three times excitation level. Helium or hydrogen (with safety controls) can be used for the light elements from Ti (No. 22) to Mg (No. 12).

The water-cooled x-ray tube has a tungsten or molybdenum target and beryllium window and has a maximum rating of 2.5 KW at 50 ma. for constant potential.

Wide-Band D-C Amplifier Signal amplifications over a wide

band with low phase or amplitude dis­tortion are available with a direct coupled amplifier designed for appli­cations requiring amplification of fast pulses, sine waves, ramp voltages, or other wave forms. Driven by a single-phase input signal, the amplifier will provide two output signals in comple­mentary phase, the principle output being in phase with the input, with a gain of 10 for each phase and a push-pull signal amplitude of 100 volts peak-to-peak. Nonlinearity is less than 2%. Both output signals can be adjusted to have their quiescent level at ground potential, and either may be used alone to obtain a ground-refer­enced signal of 50 volts peak-to-peak amplitude.
