I’m getting a COVID19 Vaccination

A Social Story

I’m going to get a COVID19 vaccine. A carer can stay with me. Getting the vaccine will help prevent

me from getting sick from COVID19. The nurse will give me a mask to wear when I enter the

building.

A person will meet me at the front door.

They will ask me my name.

I will need to use hand sanitizer and my

temperature will be taken.

I will go to the desk. The person will ask me to fill in a form. A carer or family member can

help with this. I will need my green Medicare card.

Then I need to wait my turn. It can be busy and noisy. There is a TV but I can bring other things that I like to do, like my iPad or a book or anything that makes me feel happy and

safe.

When my name is called, I go into a little room. I can have someone else with me. A nurse will ask my name and when my

birthday is. The nurse will ask me if I understand about the COVID19 vaccine. It’s OK to feel scared. The nurse will talk to me

if I am worried and answer my questions.

The nurse will roll up my sleeve and clean my

arm. The nurse will give me the vaccine using

a needle. It may feel like a pinch. The nurse

will put a Band-Aid on my arm.

Then I will go to another waiting area where I

will get a sticker. I will need to wait for 15

minutes.

If I feel sick, I will tell a nurse. They will help

me.

If I need to go to the toilet, there are toilets for me

here.

The nurse will tell me when I can go home. I will

leave a different way.
