What is a system?

•a collection of well-organised and well-integrated elements with apparent attributes which establish relationships amongst themselves within a defined boundary

•a system necessarily transforms energy for its own functioning

What is a system?

•though we isolate systems to study them by delimiting the boundaries, in reality the boundaries may not be exact or even real.

•one system is always in connection with another system with which it exchanges both matter and energy.

•systems may be simple

•or complex

•general systems theory (gst) was pioneered by biologist Ludwig von Bertalanffy (1901-1972) to study general principles of system functioning and can be applied to all types of systems in all fields of research
