HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Human trafficking is a crime that exploits people and with self awareness, we may be able to prevent it.

THESIS

(Adelaide, D.)

• A trafficker’s main goal is to make big money.

• This is a crime that is happening globally.

• Are government officials participants?

• Enforcement can be difficult.

• Cases are hard to prove due to lack of witnesses.

• It is related to gangs, crime networks, corrupt people, brothel owners and so on.

Finckenauer, J., Schrock, J. (2006)

BIG MARKET

• Main reasons for human trafficking are kidnapping, exploitation and slavery.

• Promises of pleasure, money and use of persuasion are used.

• Poverty is high in victims of human trafficking.

• Deception by abusers many times leads to trust by the victims.

CAUSES

The sex industry is mainly females and children. It happens locally and throughout the United States. The average girl is 12-14 years old. For boys, the age is 11-13 years old. The Trafficking Victims Protection Act in 2000, brought self-awareness programs, monitoring, sanction programs and protection. Many organizations are combatting this crime.

HELPING INDIVIDUALS

(Doromal, W., 2008)

Anti-trafficking programs help victims by putting victims in contact with legal services, community-based organizations, law enforcement and government agencies and health care practitioners.

They constantly work towards rights for trafficked persons.

(International Rescue Committee)

PROGRAMS FOR VICTIMS

(Network Of Victim Assistance, 2008)

Prevention is a means of cutting down on human trafficking. We cannot sweep it under the rug! If it were happening to people in your community or neighborhood would you ignore it? Help to prevent a tragedy from happening or someone from becoming another victim. Use the techniques of self-awareness to combat this horrific crime. You can help!
