Dwayne Foote began histrack & field career at Lib-ertyville High School in1954, running varsity hur-dles and on the 4x400 relayteam for three years. Hebroke into coaching in 1967as an assistant coach atNorth Chicago, where heascended to the headcoaching role in 1970. He

remained at North Chicago until 1983, and duringthe course of his career coached 10 state cham-pions and eight high school All-Americans, cul-minating in a third-place team finish at the IHSABoys State Meet in 1982. In addition, the IllinoisTrack & Field Times publication named Dwaynethe state’s Hurdle Coach of the Year in 1977.

Dwayne was first licensed as an IHSA Track &Field official in 1984 and remains active today onthe high school scene and beyond. He hasserved as the assistant starter at the Pepsi In-ternational Meet and was also the Head Umpireat the Keebler International Prep Track & FieldInvitational held in Chicago in the 1980’s and1990’s. He has been assigned to work two NCAAIndoor National Championships meets thus farin his career.

Dwayne has been an integral part of the IHSAState Final crew for 31 years, including 27 yearsas a timer and four as an umpire, the position hewill be working again this weekend.

Paul Neakrase has workedthe IHSA Spring Spectacu-lar for over 30 years, wherehe has held a variety of po-sitions. From coach to trackofficial to field official to an-nouncer to timer to mar-shal, Paul has done it all,and will be filling the role ofHigh Jump Judge duringthe 2014 state meet.

Paul’s passion for track & field began in 1959when he began participating in the sport at St.Rita High School in Chicago. He continued histrack career at Bradley University, which led toa student-teaching opportunity at Peoria HighSchool. In his time at Peoria High School, helearned from legendary coach Phil Salzer, whohe cites as having a significant impact on his ca-reer. After graduating from Bradley, he becamea teacher and assistant track coach at Washing-ton High School, where he worked under headcoach Bill Farrell, and then followed Farrell asthe head coach until 1988.

As Paul left coaching for a position in the PeoriaDiocese, he became involved in officiating to re-main connected to the sport he loves. Paul andhis wife Nancy reside in Washington and hethanks “all of my former athletes, my coaches,my staff and my colleagues for allowing me toretain my enthusiasm for this great sport.”

A high school track & fieldathlete, Jerzy Marszalek re-connected with the sport heloves by becoming an offi-cial after attending IllinoisState University. His first jobafter college was teachingat Tinley Park’s CentralMiddle School, where healso coached track & field.Shortly thereafter, Ever-

green Park High School Principal Sam Good ap-proached Jerzy about becoming an official. Hewas mentored by his high school coach, leg-endary Bloom coach and IHSA official RobertRehberg, and quickly became a well respectedofficial in the track and cross country communi-ties.

Jerzy has officiated meets all across the statefor nearly 40 years, spending the majority of histime working for schools in the SICA, South WestSuburban and South Suburban Conferences. Anactive member of the ITCCOA, he has served asthe Relay Clerk at the IHSA Boys Track & FieldState Finals since 2005, while also working asthe Assistant Starter at the Girls State Meet in2007.

Jerzy remains involved in coaching as well,serving as a Tinley Park High School assistantfor nearly a decade, while continuing to helpmentor student-athletes at Central MiddleSchool. He currently resides in Orland Park andhis three sons who have all enjoyed track ca-reers and continue to run as well.
