May 12th, 2019 - Fourth Sunday of Easter
From Fr. Suresh
TODAY’S READINGS First Reading: Acts of the Apostles 13:14, 43-52
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 100:1-2, 3, 5
Second Reading: Revelation 7:9, 14b-17
Gospel: John 10:27-30
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION “I am the good shepherd, says the Lord;
I know my sheep, and mine know me.” - John 10:14
FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER … LET US HEED THE VOICE OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD We all face obstacles in life. Perhaps it's a lost job, the death of a loved one, a sudden accident that places an unex-
pected dent in our finances. Sometimes the challenges are of our own making. Perhaps we've developed patterns of sin
in our personal lives or our family relationships. We've all felt the jolting shock of, "This is all my fault." How do these
things affect our relationship with God? Or, perhaps more poignantly, how do we now view God's relationship to us?
In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus' words to us are encouraging ones. "No one can take them out of my hand." Did you
catch that? In case you didn't, Jesus reemphasizes the point again a few verses later. "My Father, who has given them to
me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of the Father's hand." God's grip of providential care and mercy is
so strong that nothing can separate us. We might think things take us out of God's hand — life circumstances, tragedy,
our lukewarm attitudes towards faith — but Jesus tells us otherwise. Nothing, no one, can take us out of the Father's
hand, and we can't take ourselves out! We can't remove ourselves from Him, not entirely. Even when grievous sin
hardens us to grace, His love is still sustaining us in existence. And His mercy is always awaiting our repentance.
"My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish."
This Sunday, let us heed the voice of the Good Shepherd. Whatever we feel might take us from God's hand, we can
turn back to Him. God is always inviting us to follow Him and to trust in His care and be sustained by His hand.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
WE WISH TO REMEMBER ALL MOTHERS (LIVING OR DECEASED) ON THIS SPECIAL OCCASION
AS WE CELEBRATE MOTHER'S DAY! THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE ALWAYS! WE LOVE YOU!
A MOTHER’S PRAYER
Father in heaven, grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you have conferred on me.
Let me realize that not even the Angels have been blessed with such a privilege — to share in your
creative miracle and bring new Saints to heaven. Make me a good mother to all my children after
the example of Mary, the Mother of your Son. Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary I ask
your continued blessings on my family. Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain
the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven. Amen.
“The loveliest
masterpiece of the
heart of God is
the love of a Mother.”

MAY, THE MONTH OF MARY... PRAY THE ROSARY
May is the month of Mary, our Blessed Mother.
This devotion to Mary arose among Jesuits in Rome in the late 18th century and quickly spread throughout the Western
Church. By the time of Pope Pius IX's declaration of the dogma
of the Immaculate Conception in 1854, it had become universal.
May crownings and other special May events in honour of Mary,
such as public recitation of the Rosary, stem from this time.
During May, remember to pray the Rosary every day!
We will be praying the Rosary starting
40 minutes before each of the weekend Masses all month
long, so please come early and join in this beautiful prayer.

PARISH NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
ST. IGNATIUS/DOROTHY RICE SCHOLARSHIP FUND —
NOW IN OUR 22ND YEAR ASSISTING FAMILIES WITH SCHOOL TUITION!
The St. Ignatius/Dorothy Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund assists families who are not able to
afford the full tuition at St. Ignatius School (which averages about $9500 per year). Each year
we help to keep children in our school who otherwise couldn’t afford a Catholic Education.
Over the past 21 years we have assisted nearly 180 children from over 120 families!
The average child in this programme receives about $200-$300 per month off the fees, paid by
the scholarship fund (directly to the school bursar), while the child’s family pays the rest.
In return for the help, the families actively contribute to the school and parish in a variety of ways (helping out with
fundraisers, chaperoning school trips, cleaning the grounds, assisting at sports days, serving on committees, etc.).
How you can help:
Donation envelopes are available at the front entrance of St. Ignatius Church or in the church office. Donations can
be dropped in the collection, sent in by mail or dropped off at the church office. If paying by cheque, please make
your donations payable to: ST. IGNATIUS, and in the memo, please indicate “Scholarship Fund”.
On-line transfers can be done through Butterfield Bank… contact May in the parish office for details.
Perhaps your company would like to assist with regular contributions OR a one-off donation?
Please consider the Scholarship Fund from time to time when doing your charitable work throughout the year!
Many thanks to all those who have contributed to the fund during recent months and during the past several years!
For further information, please contact Jeremy Rice in the Parish Office or via e-mail: jeremy.rice@st-ignatius.com.
