‘Those who trust in the Lord are as Mount Zion, which cannot be
moved but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jeru- salem so
the Lord surrounds His people from this time forth and forever. For
the scepter of wickedness shall not rest upon the land of the
righteous so that righteous will not put forth their hands to do
wrong. Do good, O Lord, to those who are good and to those who are
upright in their hearts. Psalm 125:1-4

Dear Members and Friends of HSK: Well, the government will probably
allow many businesses to reopen this week but I think another week
of isolation could be required if too many are still sick. It has
not been too difficult for me to stay a little further away from
people but I really miss going to church and not seeing Christians
who I enjoy talking to. Anyhow, let us keep praying for God’s
solution to this dis- ease. Another American pastor I listened to
last week said that he expects greater blessings from God whenever
the virus dies or the infection stops! One of the experiences of
David which always encourages me was the time when it appeared he
would live as a fugitive among people who were enemies of Israel.
(See 1 Chronicles 12) The Bible says David was ‘restricted’ which
has the meaning of being held back, restrained, or inclosed. But
one day ‘mighty men’ walked into the town where David was
restricted….men of valor…men trained for war…men ‘whose faces were
like the faces of lions’. ‘For day by day men came to David to help
him until there was a great army like the army of God’(1 Chronicles
12:22). And how does that experience of David encourage me? I think
God was showing David how great God Almighty is…our God! For the
past few weeks, the leaders of several nations are blaming the
Chinese government for the death of their citizens. These leaders
say that China spread false
information about the virus. If China had warned the world about
the virus, other nations would have been better prepared to protect
themselves according to those national leaders. But God could have
warned the world about this deadly disease, right? And God could
have kept the virus in China, not allowing it to spread throughout
the world, right? What must we think about our Heavenly Father?
Here’s one of my answers to that question: ‘…and you shall know
that I am the Lord your God…’(Exodus 6:7). Daily I am praying for
all of us to stay in good health and that God would use us to heal
those who are sick. I firmly believe the church must increase in
power and glory. And that means that all Christians should be
filled with the Spirit of God so that we do not fear but rather use
God’s gifts. At one of the first prayer meetings following Christ’s
return to heaven, this is written, ‘And when they had prayed, the
place where they had gathered was shaken, and they were all filed
with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with
boldness’(Acts 4:31). This is not the time to hide but be bold, be
speaking God’s truth, and using the gifts of God. Please remember
you are all very special to Ruth-san and me. We love you. Your
pastor…………Ben

The next deacons’ meeting…will be next Sunday, 10th. All deacons
should
plan to attend this impo r t a n t mee t i n g which will begin at
1:30 PM. Deacons may wish to eat together before that meeting
starts.
Last Sunday afternoon(Japan Time) …Ruth-san’s oldest brother,
David-san, passed away in a New York City hospital. He was 88 years
old and al- though he died without his family beside him, Ruth-san
said her older brother’s faith in God was very genuine which means
He was there with David-san. Ruth-san has no details about the
burial of her brother and i t i s not possible for her to return to
the US at this time. Thank you all for praying for her family in
New York. Some relatives are still in need of genuine faith in
God!
Next Sunday, May 10th…Yukio-san will be the morning speaker. He is
seeking to know the Lord better and wants to share more of his
faith in God with others. Please pray for him as he seeks to know
God’s will for his life.
Tomorrow, May 4th…is the second day of fasting and prayer. If you
did not fast today, please consider doing that tomorrow. You know
about many things we all must be asking the Lord to do. Tomorrow
night’s prayer meeting will begin at 6:55 PM. ’Is this not the fast
which I choose, to loosen the bonds of wickedness, to undo the
bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free and break every
yoke?’(Isaiah 58:6).
Every Sunday night this month… there will be a prayer meeting
beginning at 6:55 PM. Your pastor is so thankful to everyone who is
praying and to all who have attended the prayer meetings. And…
during these days of much suffering and death, he believes we must
pray more. ‘The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish
much’(James 5:16). …………………………………………….. But we do not want you to be
uninformed, brethren, about this who are asleep, so that you will
not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that
Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those
who have fallen asleep in Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

“But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been mani-
fested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the
righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who
believe; for there is no distinc- tion’ (Rom 3:21-22). I love those
last two words—“no distinction.” To qualify for freedom you don’t
have to be born in a certain country. You don’t have to speak a
certain language. Your skin doesn’t have to be a certain color.
There is absolutely no distinction. Why? Because we are all slaves,
slaves of our master and slaves of sin. Let me explain this in
nontechnical terms. Christ came on the scene and saw every one of
us on the slave block—lost,
miserable, spiritually useless and unable to change ourselves and
escape from the bondage of our master. Moved by compassion and
prompted by love, He, in grace, paid the price to free us. The
price was His death. By doing so, He said to every one of us, in
effect, “You don’t have to live under your former master any
longer. You’re free. You’re free to serve Me for the rest of your
life.” By redeeming us, Jesus set us free. When God raised Jesus
from the dead, He said, in effect, no one else need ever live as a
victim of sin. All who believe in Jesus, My Son, will have
everlasting life and will have the power to live in Me.” May each
of us who have been born- again and freed live like that is
so.
Please pray for Ruth’s family in New York. It is a hard time for
them after the passing of her brother, David-san.
Let’s keep holding on to Jesus and His words, “Fear not, for I am
with you”. He is in control!
Please pray for each other this week. Write or give a call to a
brother or sister. We must stay connected!
Nadine-san thanks all who prayed for her friend’s mom who had brain
surgery. She is recovering well. But please keep praying for
Nadine-san’s family. They need healing!
COVID-19 is now spreading rapidly in Africa. Please pray for this
nations this week. The lack of hospitals and medicine will result
in a lot of suffering in many homes.
Please pray for Satomi-san’s mom, Tomoko-san, who will undergo
surgery again sometime in the near future!
God is able to do more than we can ask or think! Let’s keep asking
and
believing that all churches in Japan will grow during these
difficult days. Please pray again for all pastors.
Maybe there are fewer people are who dying in China but…the
situation may still be very dangerous. This week, who will pray for
China and Chinese Christians?
Our pastor’s mother, Wrae-san, has returned to her home but is now
restricted from going anywhere for the next 2 weeks. She is praying
more for us so let us pray for her to stay in good heath.
Oshi-san has pain in one leg which perhaps is not yet gone. Please
pray for his health this week. He enjoys coming to HSK!
Let us ask the Lord again to keep everyone employed and supply the
needs of those who have lost their jobs! …………………………………………………………..
Note: If you do not want your prayer request to be in the church
bulletin, please mark that clearly on your prayer request
card.
