The Mid-Atlantic Region Dr. Robert Wells, Governor

March 2015 Dear NATS Colleagues: I hope that this finds you well and surviving another eventful winter meteorologically speaking. As Chapter and District Auditions are nearing completion, we are looking forward to another exciting Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference on March 27-28, 2015. Special thanks to Martha Randall and her colleagues at the University of Maryland, College Park our hosts for the Regional Conference and Student Auditions. This letter outlines several important items pertaining to this years Regional Conference:

Teacher Registration Process for Confirmation of Student Application Data

Tentative Schedule for Regional Conference and Auditions Master Class with Mark Oswald

Student Auditions Teacher Registration Please read thoroughly the attached Teacher Registration/Banquet Reservation Instructions. (This is an attached document with a link for on-line submission.). On-line registration and reservation instructions are contained in this document. You will also find specific instructions for payment of all necessary fees in this same Instruction Sheet. Please do remember: All teachers with students participating in the Regional Auditions must submit the $30.00 Teacher Registration Fee. Teachers of participating students agree to adjudicate auditions on March 28th. Those teachers who are unable to judge student auditions must secure an eligible substitute judge and submit a $50.00 Substitute Judge Fee in addition to the Teacher Registration Fee.

  • Student Application Confirmation

Upon completion of each respective districts auditions, application data for all students who advance to the regional level are automatically transferred to the Mid-Atlantic Regional website for you. It is essential that you confirm your students application data. You MUST log on to the regional website and validate each of your students' applications. If there are no changes to be made, then simply click through each step to finalize the application. If there are necessary adjustments (repertoire, accompanist, attendance intentions, etc.), make those changes as you review the data, revising the supplied information where appropriate. You must click through to the end of the process in order to confirm all changes and/or student participation. You should find the process very similar to the one used on your district website. The website will check the application for errors and will save your work automatically. Your username and password are the same as you use on the district website. To begin, visit this address: www.midatlanticnats.org Please Note: This process is mandatory if you are sending students on to the regional auditions. The deadline for completion of this process is 11:59 PM, 16 March 2015. You may return to the regional website through that date to review and edit your submissions. Repertoire Changes, Accompanists, and Copyright Teachers may make changes to student audition repertoire at any time prior to 11:59 PM on March 16, 2015. Please be aware that no repertoire changes will be permitted after the March 16th deadline. In light of the fact that some districts permit repertoire changes on the day of student auditions, it is critical that all teachers recognize that such last-minute changes are not permitted at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Student Auditions. (This policy was reaffirmed by the Regional Board at its meeting in April 2011.) A list of available pianists follows in this letter and will be posted to the Mid-Atlantic Region website. The posted list will be updated periodically. All pianist arrangements must be completed and confirmed no later than March 16, 2015. Please keep in mind that no pianist may play for more than ten (10) student auditions. Please be mindful of NATS policies as they relate to copyright laws. No photocopied music is permitted in student auditions, with the exception of a single page of photocopied music to facilitate a difficult page turn. Member teachers are encouraged to review NATS copyright policies available at the following link: http://www.nats.org/programs/student-auditions-adjudications.html At this point, we are unable to permit pianists to utilize iPad or Tablet computers when playing auditions. This policy is set by the NATS Board of Directors. Until such time as the national organization revises its policies, we will be unable to allow use of digital scores in any student auditions.

  • Pianists A list of available pianists is attached. Please be aware that all arrangements are to be made directly between the singer and the pianist. The Mid-Atlantic Region suggests a fee of $40.00 for one 30-minute rehearsal and the audition. While this fee is may be appropriate in many locations within our region, there are geographic areas in which the market rate may be higher. Pianists may, at their discretion, request a higher fee based on accepted market rates, and they are under no obligation to adhere to the suggested fee. Please check the Mid-Atlantic Regional NATS website (http://www.midatlanticnats.org) regularly for updated information. As always, should you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to be in touch. Very sincerely,

Robert Wells, DMA Governor, Mid-Atlantic Region NATS
