Jewelry design and manufacturing is an
ever-evolving field, and GIA® can equip you with the
up-to-date skillsets you need to succeed. Recognized
worldwide as the leading research and education institute
for gems and jewelry, the Gemological Institute of Amer-
ica® (GIA) provides an ideal environment in which to
acquire the knowledge and professional credentials crucial
to a career in fine jewelry design or manufacturing.
GIA offers intensive programs for designing and making
jewelry, with significant class time devoted to hands-on
experience working with and understanding the character-
istics of precious metals—white and yellow gold, silver, and
platinum—with all of it taking place at your own jewelry-
making workbench or CAD workstation.
In addition to using high-quality equipment found on-
the-job, you’ll be taught by passionate instructors with
years of industry experience.
• Graduate Jeweler Diploma Program: Learn the skills
needed to become a professional bench jeweler in six
months. This hands-on program covers setting gemstones,
hand-fabrication, forging techniques, soldering and laser

• Jewelry Design & Technology Diploma Program:
This six-month program covers topics essential to becom-
ing a jewelry designer and CAD technician. You’ll learn
how to build CAD models of jewelry to engineering speci-
fications using Rhinoceros and ZBrush software. Then
you’ll turn your designs into 3D printing objects ready for

• Repair and Setting: Learn basic bench jeweler skills in
just five days.
Scholarships and financial aid, including U.S. Federal
loans and grants and veterans education benefits, may be
available for those who qualify.
