Improve efficacy through eHealth solutions

• More patients can benefit

• Reduced costs

• Opportunity to practice

883 diabetes apps for the iPhone alone…

so why another one?

• Most apps do not differentiate between

T1DM and T2DM.

• Focus on simple logging of blood

glucose instead of self-management.

• Only 20% give individualized feedback.

• Consumer apps don’t give evidence-

based guidance.

Current work: validating the diabetes model

• Currently gathering type 1 and type 2 data

• 84 patients, 47 timepoints, 180 mL blood

• Type 2 divided in 6 classes

Next phase: user interface

Take home messages

We are developing E-DES:

• a scientifically validated educational simulator

for patients with diabetes type 1 and 2

• it models different meals and can be

individualized

• it distinguishes different groups of diabetes

type 2 patients, rather than treating them as 1

• it will become freely available

We are still looking for partners to further

develop the user interface!
