Your library media specialists are here to assist you with book selection, research, and etc. If you need help, please do not hesitate to ask one of us!

When is the Media Center open?

7:45 A.M. to 3:45 P.M. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

7:45 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday and Thursday

May I visit the Media Center during class?

Students with a pass from a teacher may:• check out books.• conduct research on a computer.• print assignments.• ask for help at the circulation desk.

What may I check out?•Books•Nook e-Readers•Flip video cameras•Playaways (audio books)•Reference materials

How do I find what I want to check out?

From any computer or Internet-enabled device, go to destiny.lex.2.org to search AHS’s online Media Center catalog.

What if the book I want is checked out?

Come to the circulation desk and request a hold. We’ll send you a note when the book is ready for check out.

What else is available in the Media Center?•Computers•Printers•Scanner•Heavy-duty paper cutters•Photocopier (10 cents per copy)•Poster paper (white 50 cents each)•Die cuts•Three-hole-punch•Scissors•Stapler•Electric pencil sharpener•Magazines (Not available for check out, but donated to classroom libraries.)•The State newspaper (Not available for check out, but donated to classroom libraries.)

How many books may I check out?

* “Check One-Hold One” Policy:

For pleasure reading, you may check out one (1) book at a time and place a “back up book” on hold.

*Up to four (4) books may be checked out for research projects. See Mrs. Cook or Mrs. Payne to make arrangements for projects.

How do I check out a book?

Bring your book and ID to the circulation desk.

When is my book due?

Most materials check out for two weeks.

Reference materials check out overnight.

What happens if I don’t renew or return my materials when they’re due?

High school students in Lexington 2 are charged overdue fines.

Pay attention to the due date stamped on the back of your book! Regular books, Nooks, Playaways, and etc. 10 cents per day

Reference materials 50 cents per day

Where do I return books when I’m finished with them?

There’s a book return slot under the flag at the circulation desk for materials return. However, DO NOT return Nooks in this slot. Hand Nooks to Mrs. Cook or Mrs. Payne.

Return books here.

How do I pay for overdue fines?

Bring cash (preferably EXACT change) to the circulation desk.

OR

Bring canned goods to the circulation desk, which will be donated to the needy in our community.

Each canned good clears $2.50 in fines.

What happens if I don’t pay my fines?

Students who owe more than $2.50 to the Media Center may not check out materials.

Materials may be placed on hold for up to a week until debts are cleared.

What reading programs are offered at AHS?

READ 2015•Read at least 2015 pages of text independently this school year.•Pick up a reading log at the circulation desk.•Ask a teacher to sign your reading log.•Turn in your READ 2015 sheet and qualify for a prize drawing!

South Carolina Young Adult Book Awards (YABA)

• Read at least three of the books on the YABA list.• Pick up a reading log at the circulation desk to

log your reading.• Collect prizes for each book you read:• 1 book=bookmark and item from prize

bucket• 2 books=restaurant coupon and free book

of your choice• 3 books=vote for your favorite YABA and be

entered into a prize drawing

What if I don’t see something in the Media Center I need or want?

Talk with Mrs. Cook or Mrs. Payne about purchasing your recommendation, or complete the recommendation form at the Media Center website.
