St. Michael & Sacred Heart Catholic Parishes
Called - Nurtured - Sent To carry on the Mission of Christ
From Your Pastor
Our Trivia event last week went off wonderfully. Thank you to all the committee members who organized this and to all who attended. I hear it was the most successful yet. The proceeds are going toward a new sanctuary lamp at Sacred Heart. Thank you all.
I ask you all to remember our Confirmation candidates who are preparing for Confirmation and their parents. We held a retreat this weekend at Sacred Heart Church with the National Evangeliza-tion Team. We will also be having confession with the grade eight students in preparation for Con-firmation taking place on February 11th and 12th . It would be wonderful if each of you would include the prayer to the Holy Spirit for our Confirmation candidates each day from now until the 12th as an extended Novena. Just pray each day:
“Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. Come, and you will renew the face of the earth.
Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit you have taught the hearts of your faithful. In the same Spirit, help us to relish what is right and always rejoice in your consolation. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen”.
This coming week, on Wednesday, we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, or (Candlemas Day) and Thursday, the Feast of St. Blaise. Long ago Candlemas Day ended the Christ-mas Season. We will be blessing candles both of these days. If you would like to bring any candles you will be using at home in the coming year, we will bless them at the end of Mass. We will also bless your throats after Mass is concluded. We will have both the Blessing of Candles and Blessing of Throats on both Wednesday evening at St. Michael and Thursday evening at Sacred Heart following evening Mass.
Young Adults Social Group—COMING SOON!
Some of our parishioners have expressed an interest in having a young adults social group. Of course, the BIGGEST question may be - “how young is young?” We’re thinking somewhere in the 20-40ish area, but you can be your own judge.
Plans are underway for an initial get-together. Please contact Leanne at ext.25 or lmoran@dol.ca if you have any suggestions to bring to the group, for more information, or to be added to the contact list. Watch here for more infor-mation next week!

Do You Have a Child 7 Years of Age or
Older Who Has Not Been Baptized?
Time to Register
In keeping with Bishop Fabbro’s directives regarding the Ad-ministration of Sacraments in the Diocese of London, children who have celebrated their seventh birthday will now be fully initiated into the Catholic faith through the sacraments of Baptism, Confir-mation and Eucharist in ONE celebration. In order to prepare the children and families for these sacraments, we will be holding a 3-part winter session of RCIA with Children. These sessions and are also open to youth who may have “missed” sacraments along the way or children who have been baptized in other Christian faiths and wish to be in full communion with the Catholic Church. These sessions are for families and the dates are listed below for the up-coming winter session. Please contact Leanne (lmoran@dol.ca or 519-344-2992 x25) for more information or to register. Please note, this is not intended to replace the normative sacramental prepara-tion for First Communion/Reconciliation (grade 2) or Confirmation (grade 8). Saturday, February 25 – ‘A Closer Look at Baptism” (9:00 –
11:00 – Sacred Heart Church)
Saturday, March 25 – “A Closer Look at Confirmation” (9:00 – 11:00 – Sacred Heart Church)
Saturday, April 8 – “A Closer Look at the Eucharist” (9:00 – 11:00 – Sacred Heart Church)
Saturday, April 22 - Sacraments of Initiation Celebrated ( 9:30 a.m. Mass – Sacred Heart Church followed by a social)

Trivia Night Thank You
A big thank you goes out to all those who attended the Sacred Heart Annual Trivia Night - a fun filled evening of laughter and team play. A big shout out goes to Jo Kulik's very sharp witted team. They get this year's smarty pants award. Even better news is that the event generated a whopping $2560.25 which will be used for a new sanctuary light at Sacred Heart Church. Again, thank you all for participating. Thank you to the St. Amand's and Doyle's for providing the fun, and we look forward to seeing you all for a re-match January 19, 2018...mark your calendars!
Linger Longer Thank You
Thank you to everyone who came out on Sunday, January 22, 2017 to our Linger Longer Coffee Social after the 9 am Mass. Every-one had a lovely time meeting new people and renewing old friend-ships. There was an opportunity for everyone to learn about the “saints of winter” and for the younger ones to reinforce the gospel about becoming “fishers of men.” A big thank you to everyone who helped and especially to all who provided the yummy goodies.
We look forward to seeing you at our next social. Watch the bulletin for announcements. If you are interested in helping, please call Mary Parkes at 519-336-4849 or Joan Oxley at 519-542-8454.
