FOOD WASTE

• Food waste or food loss is food that is discarded or lost uneaten. As of 2011, 1.3 billion tons of food, about one third of the global food production, are lost or wasted annually. Loss and wastage occurs on all steps in the food supply chain.

The World Bank estimates that India is ranked 2nd in the world of the number of children suffering from malnutrition, after Bangladesh (in 1998), where 47% of the children exhibit a degree of malnutrition.

This is Pulitzer winning photo by Kevin Carter in 1994.This photo depicts a child crawling toward the United Nations food camp, located a kilometer away. The vulture is waiting for the child to die, so he could eat the child. No one knows what happened to the child, including the photographer who left the place as soon as clicked the picture.
