FLOWER ARRRANGEMENT

Definition:
• Flower arrangement is an art of arranging and organizing flowers under the principles of design in order to give the good/lively ambience to the surrounding or the area where it is kept/placed.
• After 1930 FA came into existence as a skill/craft .
Conditioning of Plant Material
• Plant material should be cut in slant.
• Cut flowers b4 maturity.
• Wrap the flowers upto the neck wd nwspapr.
• Keep flowers in water tilll used.
• Remove all leaves from stems .
• Shape the big leaf to resemble its original shape.
• Flowers wd hollow stem should be coagulated on candle after cutting e.g dahilas etc.
Care after flower arrangement is made• Don’t put fresh
flower arrangement in direct sunlight as it results draught.
• Don’t put near fruit pot as it causes wilting due to ethylene gas.
• Prolong the life by spraying warm water.
• Change the water daily.
• Add small amount of listerine,amonia etc for bacterial killing.
• Use clean containers to prevent foul smell.
• After every 3 days cut stems,rewater pot,clean vase etc

Basic ingredients used• Mechanics-
Foam,wire,holders,adhesive clay,glue,pebbles, marbles,
• Equipments – bucket,scisors,sprin- klers,floral tape,wire,knife,cutters, can holders, cocktail sticks
• Containers- jug , vases .
• Bases- Table mats, wood
base ,stone base,oriental base
• Accessories- Main purpose is
decorativelike miniature dolls,ribbons etc.
Styles of flower arrangement• Based on the angle & on the amount of space
present in arrangement (Right, frontal, left, triangular, circular, crescent, Fan shape, Hogarth/S, Byzantine cone, Biedermeier shape, Ikebana, Nageria, Moribana)
• Based on the plant material used (dried,foilage)
• Based on the effect of arrangement (High,low,eye level)
A round flower arrangement
• This is designed to be seen from all sides & chosen for a table or room centerpiece
A front open arrangement
• This is also called a” flat –back arrangement” and is seen only from the front & perhaps the sides
• It is chosen for a shelf or a sideboard
About foliage arrangement
• This is created mostly from fresh green leaves & less of flower
• They have affinity for modern furnishings
• They do take a traditional setting
Dried flower arrangement
• Dried materials are used• Used during those
months when availability of flowers is less
• Dried materials used are –wood berries, cones, ferns, &so on
• A driftwood is used as a base
Ikebana(japenese)• Ikebana means
“Making flowers live”
• It is the symbolic respresentation of harmony between Earthly and eternal life .
Ikebana continue……There is an imaginary triangle in every ikebana.Tallest line represents = Heaven (shin)
Highest 1- 2half times height of container. Middle Facing & looking towards
heaven=Man (see) ¾ height of tallest stem.45*angle,provides width to argmnt.
Lowest line Looking up to both = Earth (hikae) Lowest half of man/See stem, makes 115* angle with the rim of container.
Moribana arrangement
• It is the informal FA in a shallow container in which pin holder is used as mechanics.colorful fowers are used in it.
• Also called as flat or low container/vase arrangement.
Nagerie arrangement
• It is a classical arrangement in a tall cylindrical vase with a flowing and natural effect.
• While floating arrangement is called UKIBANA
Placing flower arrangements
• High level• Low level• Eye level
PROPORTION:-
It is atechnique ofcreating the harmony between Container, plant material,base/vase in terms of colour, symmetry, material and other allied things.
Back ground:-
On this aspect following things are kept into consideration:-
• Style of room.• Size of room• Type of wall surface.• Practicability.
Texture:-
• Different flowers have different textures’ like shiny,glossy,calm ,dull ,dark etc• A variety of textures within the
arrangement increases interest by availing monotony.
Balance:-
• Physical BalanceIt illustrates the
balance of weight in terms of base,flowers,floral foam,basket.
• Visual BalanceIn this case the flower
arrangement should posses the harmony in terms of symmetry, colour, material etc
Rhythm:-
Involves using techniques & materials that guide the eye from one part of the display to another.
This all can be achieved by 1.Using curved stems. 2.Hiding all tall parts. 3.Having flowers at different dev. Stages. 4.Using foliage etc
Colour:-
• The selection of colour of arrangemnt plays a paramount role in creating right & lively ambience.
• The different colour which are used are as under:-
1.Monochromatic colours. 2. Analogous Colors. 3. Contrasting colours. 4.Poly chromatic colours.
Emphasis/Dominanace:-• For making the circular/all round
flower arrangement the dominance plays a vital role in creating the order and rhythm e.g., focal point is selected for creating these arrangements.
