Lynn has been in the hospital so communication has limited. As this
goes to “press”, she is now home and healing. Maybe she will be up
and running for the July meeting. If not running, maybe we can hope
for at least a “show”. We are all pulling for you Lynn.

Since our ride coordinator has been a bit under the weather (with heart surgery etc.), we thought it
might be good to allow you to use this map to start thinking of places you might like the group to
travel to.
This map if from the 1800’s . Without all those cities to distract things, we thought it might be easier
to “pick and choose” what you would like.
Expect to watch for emails about kick tires etc.

July Newsletter Article – Rider Education
This article has two parts:
Dehydration
Motorcycle Humor
Let’s start with a serious note. We’re into the hot weather in which dehydration is an is-
sue.
Here’s some tips on staying hydrated.
-Drink at least eight ounces of water per hour during the heat of the day.
-Increase the frequency of breaks during the hottest part of the day.
-Every time you stop for gas or a rest break in hot weather, take time to
drink enough fluids to replace what you lose through perspiration.
-If you are drinking frequently but don’t have to go at each rest stop, then
you probably are not drinking enough.
Watch out for hyperthermia in yourself and others.
-Hyperthermia - body cannot properly regulate your internal temperature
and your temperature rises uncontrollably
-Symptoms
--Absence of sweat in hot weather
--Confusion, headache, dizziness, redness of the skin, often most no-
ticeable on the face.
-If allowed to reach this state, it is a medical emergency requiring immedi-
ate medical attention.
-Treatment
--Body temperature must be lowered
--Get off your motorcycle!
--Relax in the shade or an air conditioned space.
--Drink lots of water
--Remove gear and loosen clothing to allow the body to cool itself.
--Definitely get out the water absorbing collar or soak your shirt at
this time. It will help bring your body temperature back down.
Now for some humor. As some of you have pointed out, in my zeal to provide meaning-
ful Rider’s Ed articles and presentations, I sometimes perhaps over play the macabre.
Well, this month how about a little humor?

And you wonder why I keep comparing motorcycles to airplanes, especially F-
16s!
Did you hear about the Harley owner who put Odor Eaters in his new riding
boots? Two days later, he disappeared.
Q: Where do you put money to hide it from a Harley rider?
A: In the bathroom...under the soap.
