!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!13 Source: ICPSR Pennsylvania Election Data and Tribune Almanac (1863). The map is complicated by congressional redistricting after 1860, as well as the creation of Cameron County and the lack of party-level congressional voting returns for Forest and Somerset counties. The Democratic pickup category includes all counties in a congressional district taken over by a Democrat in 1862. The Competitive 1860 category includes all counties where the Republican congressional vote ranged from 45 to 55 percent located in congressional districts where the seat did not switch from one party to another. The Solidly Partisan category includes all counties where one party won more than 55 percent of the vote in 1860 and where the congressional seat remained with the same party.
