The Fairview Story

The Center for Urban Agriculture at Fairview Gardens is a California nonprofit organization established in 1997 to preserve and operate Fairview Gardens, a historic farm, founded in 1895. Fairview Gardens is considered by some to be the oldest organic farm in southern California, and is now preserved in perpetuity through an agricultural conservation easement.Fairview Gardens plays a unique role in the community, providing its neighbors with food, educational and cultural events, open space and a connection to the land. The farm also serves as a community-based educational resource, advocating for appropriately scaled, healthy food systems and provides engaging hands on agricultural experiences.

Farm LeadershipHealth and community service are the driving forces that have inspired our Executive Director, Dr. Lacey Baldiviez, through her educational and professional pursuits. After having faced a significant health challenge as a child, Lacey formulated her personal mission to strive for a world in which all children have a healthy start to life. Lacey has worked with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation establishing a Public Health Nutrition program for pregnant women and infants in West Africa. She earned a doctorate degree in Nutritional Biology with a focus on Community nutrition programs from UC Davis and served as a research project manager for the US Department of Agriculture. She has trained on numerous farms in Northern CA and is now focused on establishing Community Food Programs in Santa Barbara County and expanding our educational reach at Fairview Gardens.
