INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES
Students have the ability to gather and interpret relevant data (usually within their field of study) toinform judgements that include reflection on relevant social, scientific or ethical issues.

OBJECTIVES
The students must acquire knowledge about the social and cultural space that allow them to develop a criticalawareness on the current situation. Furthermore it is essential to transmit the values of citizenship and respect forthe environment necessary for a normal democratic coexistence.
CONTENT
1. Theory contentsHISTORY. The political, economic, social and cultural foundations of the contemporary world: The economicgrowth and the social conflict in the contemporaneity (19th century and first third of the 20th century); Thepolitical evolution through an analysis of three structures of political-territorial, administrative and culturalorganization (Empire, Nation and State in the 19th and 20th centuries)TERRITORY: Population: evolution, distribution, structure and main current demographic problems and theirrelation with sustainable development objectives. The urban environment: structure and evolution of the city.Sustainability and the urban environment..PHILOSOPHY: Knowledge: the bases of thought and its relationship with culture. The importance of criticalthinking. The practical relevance of philosophical ideas in contemporary culture.
Analysis of texts and documents.Projection and comment of documentaries.Analysis of geographical and historical cartography.Reading and commentary of texts and graphics.

General clarifications on instruments for evaluation:If any of the assessment's tasks were not to be completed, the corresponding assignment would be incorporatedinto the rest of the competencies.At the beginning of the teaching of the subjects, the specific evaluation system of each of the blocks will bedetailed.In order to pass the subject, a good level of linguistic and communicative competence will be indispensable. Thelack of correctness in the preparation of oral or written texts may have a negative impact on the final grade, andmay even lead directly to a failure.An attitude of respect between men and women will be taken into account, both in written texts and in behavior inthe classroom and with the rest of the university community.
Clarifications on the methodology for part-time students and students with disabilities andspecial educational needs:Part-time students will be able to follow the course through the materials hosted in the Moodle platform and in thereprographics service, as well as with the bibliography provided by the teacher in the face-to-face tutorials theymust attend.
Qualifying criteria for obtaining honors:Students must obtain at least 9 points throughout the three parts of the course and carry out al least 50% of thevolunteer activities
Clarifications on the evaluation of the first extraordinary call and extra-ordinary call forcompletion studies:Extraordinary exams will be evaluated exclusively by means of an exam which, however, may include practicalexercises related to the activities of this type carried out in class.

The methodological strategies and the evaluation system contemplated in this Course Description will be adapted according tothe needs presented by students with disabilities and special educational needs in the cases that are required.
CONTINGENCY PLAN: CASE SCENARIO A
Case scenario A will correspond to a diminished on-site academic activity due to social distancingmeasures affecting the permitted capacity of classrooms.
General clarifications on the methodology on case scenario AA multimodal (hybrid) teaching system will be adopted, combining both on-site and remote classes viavideoconference (synchronous) that will be held in the timetable approved by the corresponding Faculty or School.The time distribution of teaching activities (both on-site and remote) will be decided by the aforementionedFaculties and Schools bearing in mind the permitted capacity of classrooms and social distancing measures asestablished at that time.

Case scenario B will bring about a suspension of all on-site academic activities as a consequence ofhealth measures.

Alternative activities will be proposed for reduced groups in order to guaranteethe acquisition of course competences.
