13 March 2020
My Fellow Sisters and Brothers of the Northeast District,
With all the ups and downs that college has brought me, the thing that has always been
consistent in my journey has been the unwavering support from my sisters. Last year, upon
attending my first precinct convention, I felt the passion for service and band engagement that
ties us all together as sisters across diverse chapters. At NEDCon 2019, I saw the passion for not
only band, but for this organization, the passion for change, for service, for friendship. During
elections, two chapters, whom I met that weekend, nominated me to run from the floor for Vice
President of Special Programs and Secretary / Treasurer. It truly astonished me that people could
see my potential, especially when I have never been able to see it myself. I stood up and ran
because those sisters believed in me and what I had to say. Now, armed with an arsenal of ideas
and zeal, I present myself before you all, believing in myself for the first time in a long time. It is
with great reverence and pride that I announce to you, my fellow Sisters in the bond, my
candidacy for the office of Northeast District Secretary / Treasurer.
In preparing for my candidacy, three pillars have consistently stood out and ran parallel
to my ideas: the pillars of transparency, balance, and engagement. As a current outside sister
looking into the District Council, it is sometimes hard to see what the council is working on
throughout the year. To increase transparency, I would like to open part of the council meeting to
the public and send out a monthly meeting recap. In order to increase the clarity of the workings
of the Council, I would like to start a “Day in the Life” series, with different council members,
counselors, and any other executive leadership that would be willing to take part.
Emphasizing balance in the lives of the members as students, band members, and sisters
would not only involve consistently keeping this in mind while making decisions, but it also
involves future planning. After starting a career series in Gamma Omega, I would like to bring a
resume workshop specially for utilizing your band experience and your sisterhood leadership in
your future endeavors, either to the 2021 District Convention or over Instagram live.
Finally, I would love to increase engagement in different campaigns and programs by
trying to reach sisters on platforms where they are currently engaged. This includes having more
programs via Instagram Live rather than Google Hangouts, discussion points over Instagram
open-ended questions, and increasing our presence on Twitter. This will allow students to utilize
their different forms of social media and engage in the way they would like.
My passion for this organization is endless; combined with my background in marketing
and professional volunteerism and my passion to consistently be our best, I am assured that I
would be able to take on this position with you all by my side. Thank you for your consideration.
Respectfully, with Much Love in the Bond,
Emily Insalaco, Life Member of the Gamma Omega Chapter

Goals
Professional
Short Term: To secure a full-time position in my chosen sector, marketing, hopefully focusing on
content or team management.
Long Term: To attend graduate school to secure a Master’s in Higher Education, specifically
focusing on advising. I would then like to utilize this degree to secure a full-time position at a
university. I would also like to continue to actively serve my community in service, either in the
musical realm or within my other charitable interests, such as Make a Wish, hopefully in a
board-level position.
In-Office
Secretary-Related
• Day in the Life of a District Officer, District Councilor, CVA, Alumni Association
Officer, National Officer (whomever will agree to do them)
o Done over Instagram live / Instagram take-over style
o Increases awareness of what the different executive positions do on a daily basis
o Increased NED presence on Twitter
• President Remind 101
o Work with the District President to set up a Remind 101, a free service that allows
a “group owner” to send out announcements via text message to a set group
o This would be a way to remind presidents of deadlines, in case of a busy well
▪ One week out, one day out, day due
• Move to utilizing a combination of both Google Hangouts and Instagram Lives,
depending on content
o Especially if it is just to ask general questions
o This would allow people to jump on the call at their leisure or if they see it
popped up, instead of directly planning to attend the call
• Public Minutes-ish
o Send out a recap of what the council discussed this month at the end of the month
(baring closed business) to increase transparency
• Instagram Open Answer
o Utilize Instagram’s “Ask me a question” feature three days before the third to last
council meeting of the month, asking if anyone has something that the District
should discuss
o Utilize Open Answer to recap all conventions
• Public Council Call
o Open the last council call of the month to the public, so they are able to see what
is discussed on a council call / ask any questions they may have
Emily Insalaco – NED Sec/Treas Candidacy Packet – 9
o Conduct closed business one-hour to thirty-minutes before the public call
• Newsletter
o Continue semesterly newsletter
o Introduce “summer semester” newsletter
• Hashtag of the Month
o A great idea from the NCD Instagram!
o Gives chapters who are less active on social media to have a jumping off point
o Allows for the NED to be able to showcase stories in a highlight section by
hashtag / month
o Highlight both chapter and sister participation
o See timeline for specific hashtags (open to new ideas as well!)
• Weekly Chapter Highlight
o Continue chapter highlights started by Alison Ritz
o Put some of the paragraph information onto graphics themselves
o Create a digital scrapbook at the end of the year that includes all of the chapter
highlight information
• NED Group Me
o Ramp up participation and awareness as another place to meet sisters and ask
questions
• Social Media Award and Travel Grant Award
o Keep both awards, but open them mid-January
o Advertise heavily
Treasurer-Related
• Budget Template
o Previous NED Sec / Treas Officers Sam Hall and Alison Ritz finalized a template
to give to the Northeast District treasurers
o I would like to distribute this form in a timely fashion so that Northeast District
treasurers are able to fill out the required budget to be submitted to the District
using this form, while also still being able to utilize their own budgeting system
within their chapter
• District Fundraiser
o Create a standardized ΤΒΣ Northeast District pattern to put on different items
every year
▪ Water bottle, fanny pack, long-sleeves, beanie
▪ This alleviates the pressure to find a new design from sisters / competes
with the Convention t-shirt
o Ramp up advertising for District fundraisers, starting a month out from start
o Utilize dine-to-donate fundraisers for locations near District Convention
▪ Encourage chapters hosting Precinct Convention to do this for themselves!
o Raffles
Emily Insalaco – NED Sec/Treas Candidacy Packet – 10
▪ Based on Council’s talents – either continue fee reimbursements (planned
for NEDCon 2020) or for items that the council creates
• Maintain current budgeting system for the District, while continually evaluating funds
use
General Council-Related
• Creation of Fundraising and Social Media Ideas List
o Email the Treasurers and Secretaries of the Chapters this summer about what their
chapter does for fundraising social media via a Google Form
o Combine all the ideas by chapter size and in-put level (time, effort, money, etc.)
and distribute to the District
o Include these tips and tricks on the NED website
o For social media in particular, make sure Chapters know to highlight their
“insignificant” things, day-to-day operations are cool to see and unique!
• Non-Anonymous Suggestion Box
o Name, Preferred Contact Method, Preferred Pronouns, Chapter
▪ Not position specific, but able to give the council suggestions to improve
throughout the year, with the ability for the council to follow-up with
concerns as they happen
• Precinct Convention Resume Workshop
o A personal passion – I have run a few resume workshops for Gamma Omega, and
I have had a few discussions on utilizing their band and sisterhood experience on
their resumes and on job interviews
o I would love to turn this into either a Precincts workshop or an Instagram Live
that is saved to our highlights
