How Do Other Cultures View The

Introduction

• Many different cultures have their own beliefs about the creation of the Universe.

Chinese Culture

• In Chinese mythology there were originally ten suns in the sky, who were all brothers.They were supposed to emerge one at a time as commanded by the Jade Emperor, but they were still young and loved to fool around. Once they decided to all go out into the sky to play at once. This made the world to hot for anything to grow. A hero named Hou Yi shot down nine of them with a bow and arrow to save the people of earth.

Roman Culture• The planets get their names from the

Roman gods. Earth does not get it’s name from a Roman god it’s name is from the eighth century anglo-saxon word erda.

• The dwarf planets Ceres, Pluto and Eris also get their names from Roman gods.

Indonesian Culture

• According to the myth of some ethnic groups in the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, the earth sat on the back of a giant boar. An earthquake happened when the boar felt itchy and scratched it’s back on a giant palm tree.

Russian Culture

• In Russian mythology there was a golden egg wrapped in dark nothingness and in that egg was the father to all mankind-Rod. Rod broke out of the egg, and immediately created mother Lada, goddess of love. Then he broke through the darkness and went to work separating the oceans and seas from the skies.

Conclusion

• Each culture has it’s own view on the universe some are similar to each other and some are different, but all cultures want to understand their place in the universe.
