Business-to-business (B2B) is selling products or servicesbetween businesses through the internet via an onlinesales portal. In general, it is used to improve efficiency forcompanies. Instead of processing orders manually – bytelephone or e-mail – with e-commerce orders can beprocessed digitally.

B2B transactions can be processed online in various ways, ofwhich Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and B2B e-commerce are most often used. Although EDI and B2B e-commerce both have their own, distinctive features, theyare often mixed up.

C2C, or customer-to-customer, or consumer-to-consumer, (or citizen-to-citizen) electroniccommerce involves the electronically facilitatedtransactions between consumers through some thirdparty. A common example is the online auction, in which aconsumer posts an item for sale and other consumers bidto purchase it; the third party generally charges a flatfee or commission. The sites are only intermediaries, justthere to match consumers. They do not have to checkquality of the products being offered.
