Ecological Niche is the role that each species plays in its environment ( affecting its survival as a species )

The mass extinction of dinosaurs may have led the way for mammals to expand into the dinosaurs niches.

The White Pine is a host to the Mountain Pine Beetle.

The mountain pine beetle, belongs to the bark beetle family, that must kill their host to reproduce.

The Pine beetle invades the bark of the tree so that the tree dies from inside out.

The Effects of Global Warming.

Climate and weather play a role in the number of mountain pine beetles.

The seasonal weather of the high mountains protected the White Bark Pine from beetles.

GLOBAL WARMING Continued …Due to global warming, the

winter temperatures have increased allowing the beetle to survive.

After the beetle has invaded , the tree turns red.

White Bark Pine Ecosystem. White Bark Pine is a tree that

plays a big role in the ecosystem. It provides seeds which are a

major food source for animals. The mass destruction of these

white pines will affect the animals that depend on them for survival.

This effects the ecological niche of many animals.
