AFFINITY DIAGRAMMING
IDENTIFY TRENDS
● Attending raves
● Always with other people
● Carry small-moderate amount of things
● Mixed feelings about cell phones
● Staying in touch is important, but separating is okay
● Limited service/internet access
TRENDS SPECTRUM
Design Challenge #1
FINDING LOST PEOPLE
DEFINING “LOST”
● Willing separation from group, not actively searching
● Willing separation from group, actively searching
● Unintentional separation from group, actively searching
● Unintentional separation from group, not actively searching
QUOTES
Chester: “I like to get lost in the music and enjoy the
moment, but at the back of my mind I’m always keeping tabs
on my friends. It really withdraws from the experience.”
Anisa: "I'm here to have a good time and bond with my
friends. I like to plan a lot in advance, but no matter how
organized my friends are it’s really easy to get lost."
Goal: Find lost friends quicklyand easily
Design Challenge #2
ACCESS TO INTERNET OR CELL PHONE SIGNAL
Chester: “Yes, it is difficult to find service when everyone’s
phone is trying to look for service too. This drains my battery
a lot, which is why I try to stay away from phone as much as
possible.”
Anisa: “A lot of the big festivals that my friends and I go to
are usually in the middle of nowhere. So finding cell phone
service in those areas is almost impossible.”
QUOTES
Goal: Don’t rely on internet orcell signal
Design Challenge #3
CARRYING OBJECTS
QUOTESChester: "Showing up to an event with a lot of things to carry
makes it difficult to dance and navigate crowds. I'd rather just
go without and ask one of my buddies to carry the important
things for me, like my phone or water."
Anisa: "I try to bring everything I could need with me. I would
hate to be hungry or thirsty and regret not packing
something."
Goal: Small enough to not get in the way
