Hello,
There are many exciting changes happening for Dota2Magazine. One change, is that we will be releasing two full-
fledged magazines per month. The second, is that we will alsocreate little MINI-Zines, just like this one, every week. They
will focus on a specific topic or interest.
Another great change is that we have a team! You will bereading our contributors articles in the next major magazine
release (two weeks). Keep in mind that we are still looking formore contributors, artists, graphic designers, etc. If you think
you have a talent you want to showcase to the Dotacommunity, please feel free to contact me.
Also, the Mini-Zines are done solely by me (Fatbaby) and Iwould appreciate feedback if this would be a cool thing to do
for the commuity.
Cheers,
-Fat Baby Dota

The
Blame Game
Most executives Ive talked to believe that failure is bad (of course!). They
also believe that learning from it is pretty straightforward: Ask people to
reflect on what they did wrong and exhort them to avoid similar mistakes
in the futureor, better yet, assign a team to review and write a report on
what happened and then distribute it throughout the organization.
These widely held beliefs are misguided.

A Spectrum ofReasons for Failure
When I ask executives to consider this spectrum and
then to estimate how many of the failures in their
organizations are truly blameworthy, their answers are
usually in single digitsperhaps 2% to 5%. But when I
ask how many are treated as blameworthy, they say
(after a pause or a laugh) 70% to 90%. The unfortunate
consequence is that many failures go unreported and
their lessons are lost.
Waga on MMR
Wagamama started playing Dota in 2004 at an amatuerlevel. He has played for numerous teams, including PulseeSports and QPAD Red Pandas. He also was a cocastingwith Tobi Wan at The Internation 3. As of April 25th, 2014he is listed on the Dota 2 European Leaderboards at the#5 spot with a Solo MMR of 6498. He's indeed a valuableasset in the Dota 2 community with not only his years ofexperience as a Professional Dota 2 player, but as a rolemodel with his humble attitude.
All my teammates suck and Imaccidently calibrated lower than Ishould actually be. How do I solvethis?
First, you shouldrealize that you have been calibratedat a specific MMR because you playedin a way that you should be there. Youhavent played so that you should beat 7k or 8k MMR. You played in a waythat you should be there. This is thecase for everyone.
You are being calibrated how youplay in pubs. I was calibrated at 5.3kMMR and now Im calibrated at 6.7kMMR.
The best way to improve your MMR isto just look at your own replays andsee what mistakes you have made.Just realize all your mistakes, everyplayer in the world makes tons ofmistakes. Thats the nature of Dota 2,there are many chances to makemistakes.
I like to view my own perspective, and not look for small mistakes likemissing a Hook. But focus on generalcriteria, like last hitting.
The most important thing it torealize that you arent as good asyou want to be. You need to knowthat you can play better and tellyourself that youre not playing atthe level you should be. If you thinkyou are as good as you should be,than why would you ever improve? The most dangerous thing is to becomfortable with your level of play.
I was calibrated at 5.3k and nowIm calibrated at 6.6k MMR.
If you want to get better, one way isto play what you have a big impacton, which depends on your playstyle; support, carry, etc. Find whatyour style is, what you enjoy playing, and what you have the most impactplaying.
You need to have fun. If you donthave fun when you play, you get madand you play worse. Perhaps youplay better when youre mad, but youwont play better if youre bored.Bottomline you should have fun.
If you want to communicate withyour team, be friendly. Makingsnarky remarks wont help yourteam. If you ever played withsomeone who spammed Well Playedor other iterations after you fuck up,it isnt helpful, isnt it?
I solely almost use just pings and thechat wheel. Predominately, now Idont care if I get muted. You dontneed to write an essay tocommunicate with my team. He alsorids the excuse of not being able toplay effectively because you aremuted. The usage of the Chat Wheeland concise pings is sufficientenough to communicate a gank,Roshan attempt, etc.
Dont give up too early is anotherthing to consider. I have won gameswhere we had Mega Creeps, behind20k gold. Dont give up early.
The great thing about being at alower MMR, is that when you climb theMMR you will have the chance to bepaired with someone who hasextremely high MMR. Those peoplewill be more try hard than anybody onyour team and will focus on winning. Idont get that luxury. I currently getlower MMR teammates, and thehigher I climb, the worse teammates Iget. Im jealous because you can getbetter and learn from players, while Ido not.
Nobody is stuck at an MMR theydon't deserved to be in. If they
are, why dont they just playbetter so people around you
can win?
