Professionalism
How can you become more professional? How can you improve the work you do in the office to
improve your service to the public?
Filipinos are notorious for being tardy on their workplace, schools, appointments, etc. This is
what I disgust about our culture and I blame these wrongly established behaviors for thestagnation of our countrys development. Anyway, I believe that the best way for an individualto show professionalism is to respect time and me, myself are very strict about it. There are
several ways on showing professionalism but I believe this is the most important.
Specialized knowledge can be obtained from years of training and educational achievement
thats why I am not giving up on my studies. Skills are acquired from experience. For example inmy case, Ive been working as writer online so I have acquired a skill on encoding data. Spirit
depends on other individuals we are working it while Supportive environment are always
provided for us by the government. Standards; however is the hardest element to achieve to gain
professionalism because it requires enthusiasm.
While most elements of professionalism can be achieved, dedication to work is the barometer of
the quality of our service to the public.
It is common notion that people who had finished their studies are called professional. However,I believe that professionalism does not necessarily come from years of study in a university or alicensure exam given by the government. There are several people who can show
professionalism without formal schooling. In fact, some people with a degree and eligibility
show no professionalism in their work especially for the government.
I think that without all the conditions of being a professional, a person must not be calledprofessional. There are so many people who finished their respective studies but do not have
enthusiasm, dedication, and standard in their respective works.
Acquiring experience is the better method for me instead of attending seminars or classes about a
skill. However, the latter is proven to be effective in honing the skills of the people. But it doesnot assure the improvement in the ability of the attendee. On the other hand, experience assure
the improvement in the skills of a person.
This Distance Learning Program of the Civil Service Commission is a method of acquiring
knowledge required for professionalism.
