The Life Matrix
Introduction
If we look at our personal history it becomes obvi-
ous that there are __________________
_________________ of behavior, occurrences and
events.
We tend to have the same __________________
over and over again.
We tend to experience certain levels of success
and then we hit the “_____________________
____________ _________________.”
We occasionally ___________ beyond those bound-
aries.
There may have been occasional, inexplicable
times that you _____________ out of one or
more of these patterns before it was able to do its
ultimate damage, but those times tend to be
__________ and ______________________ to
recreate!
When we move past our ____________________
one of three things will happen:
We will feel extremely __________________.
We will experience something that causes us to
fall back within the realm of our ___________.
We adjust our life _______________________
and grow to support our new quality of life.

Our initial reaction to ________________________
is to put our _____________ in the wrong place.
Usually we focus on some _________________
________________________ to explain these
seemingly random, yet similar events.
Because we believe these things come at us from
an _________________ source we take on a
__________________ posture.
We feel there is really nothing we can do except
_________ for the next ______________ and
hope to minimize the ___________________.
At first glance these recurring situations do not seem
to be _______________________.
Since they seem to come from an outside source,
it is _______________________ to identify cau-
sality.
We are tempted to see ourselves as ___________

The Law of _____________________ says do

Session 8
Putting On the New Man
This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that
you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gen-
tiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their
understanding darkened, being alienated from the
life of God, because of the ignorance that is in
them, because of the blindness of their heart; who,
being past feeling, have given themselves over to
lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greedi-
ness.
But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you
have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as
the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning
your former conduct, the old man which grows
corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be
renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you
put on the new man which was created accord-
ing to God, in true righteousness and holiness
(Ephesians 4:17-24).
Becoming a new creation happens the moment we
believe and respond in faith (trust).
Living in our new identity, i.e. nature, character
and righteousness is not automatic.
The new man is righteous: the righteousness of
Christ.

Therefore, our lives should look like His. We
should embrace His interpretation and application
of all that God has ever and will ever speak.
When we look at Him and believe (trust) that we
can do everything He did, live the way He lived
and share in His victories we can begin to put on
the new man.
This has to be a choice made in our faith in Christ
and His “in Him” realities.
The main thing we were saved from was ourselves.
By living a life based on our old identity (nature)
we created every problem.
Failure to put on our new identity guarantees the
continuation of our life’s problems and conflicts.
The only way to break the repeated patterns in
our life is to put on the new man by applying the
truths you have learned in this seminar.
Most counseling will teach you how to manage your
behavior, which has some benefit.
You don’t need to manage your old identity; you
need to lay it in the grave.
Water baptism is the place and time we make a
conscious choice to acknowledge (confess) the
death of our old man and the resurrection of our
new man.
Communion is a time when we reconnect with
what we share with Jesus through His death, buri-
al and resurrection.
Prayer is the place where we daily (and some-
times moment-by-moment) reconcile the areas of
our life that are not harmonious with our new

identity in Christ.
There are keys to effectively putting on and walking
in our new, righteous identity.
As we read the Gospels we should envision our-
selves doing everything Jesus did. Live every
event in your mind until it is your reality and your
life.
Based on Jesus’ model we should pray and recon-
cile the difference between our current life and
the life we choose.
Create your own vision.
Where there is no revelation, the people cast off
restraint (Proverbs 29:18).
The word “vision” can mean “a vision from God”
or “a vision we create through a clear mental pic-
ture.”
When we have a clear mental picture we have
restraint to protect us from those things that
would lead us in another direction and motivation
to stay on the path we have chosen.
The reason most people miss the target of their
true identity and the quality of life offered by
God is we never create a target, i.e. a clear mental
picture of what we have chosen.
When we choose a particular identity or destina-
tion everything in us moves us to that end.
The walk of faith and grace
Every aspect of this new life is a work of grace
taken hold of by faith (trusting God) (Ephesians
2:8).
NOTES

Grace is the power, ability and capacity that
comes by divine favor and works in our heart to
make us able.
When we believe any aspect of the truth in our
heart grace works.
Getting the truth into our heart is a process.
For the characteristics of the “God kind of faith” we
have to:
Choose the end from the beginning.
Conceptualize the end in our heart.
Believe and experience the end.
Speak to the situation.
Deal with doubt (wavering).
All of these characteristics of faith are based on
Mark 11:22-24 and the account of Creation.
These aspects of the faith of God have to be more
than a mere religious check list; they must be-
come the way we approach all of life’s issues.
We are now going to create the target - the picture
of you that you choose to put on.
This is what I call an “Emotional Character
Sketch.”
We are going to describe the “new me” in very
specific behavior and emotions.
We will observe the laws for writing on our heart.
Everything we choose will be expressed as:
Personal: there is no generalization. This is not
about us; this is about me.
Positive: we will focus on the end result - the
truth of our true identity.
Present tense: we will only acknowledge these

attributes as being real in this moment.
We will use every capacity to feel the attrib-
utes of love, thankfulness and celebration.
All that we choose will be something Jesus ob-
tained and we share with Him through the New
Covenant.
Now let’s describe the new man while simultane-
ously identifying traits of the old man.
You can use the space provided in the workbook
or you can make notes on your mobile device.
List the top ten things you do that offends oth-
ers or that you want to get rid of in your cur-
rent behavior.
Write the exact opposite trait or attribute.
I feel angry – I am joyful.
I am fearful – I am bold and confident.
I tend to snap at people – I am patient and
kind.
What emotion would you need to feel in order
to express the positive trait?
We will discuss examples of how to do this based
on characteristics presented by the group.
Select the traits and write a biographical sketch
of yourself starting with how you feel when
you awaken and how you will feel and behave
throughout the day with your new choices and
feelings.
Write Your Emotional Character Sketch
You may refine it as time goes by.
Read it every morning in a meditative manner.
Internally choose to live in this identity.

Commit yourself to the grace of God.
Night exercise
Come up with one word that best describes how
you want to feel emotionally.
Using the rules of influencing the heart, write one
short sentence expressing thanksgiving that you
experience this characteristic.
Example: Thank You, Father, that I am always
filled with joy.
Thank You, Father, I am filled with confi-
dence.
Thank you, Father, that I am always an over-
comer.
Keep a special notebook and pen beside your bed.
About 15 minutes before you think you’re going
to sleep write your sentence three times, then go
to sleep.
Always write in cursive, i.e. long-hand.
Why this Works
As you are getting sleepy your brainwaves slow
down putting you in a meditative state.
Writing in cursive involves your nervous system
in a way that bypasses your critical conscience,
keeping your brain from blocking it as a reality.
When you sleep you go through three different
phases of dreams.
The first third of the night you are eliminating
meaningless clutter.
The second third of the night your dreams will be
more precognitive.
You will have dreams that symbolize you do-

ing and being what you wrote before going to
sleep.
This is why it’s important not to sleep with
the television on.
Sometimes the version of you in your dream
is so shocking it will awaken you. You will
only remember the dream for a few seconds.
You don’t have to remember them to make
them come to pass.
The last third of the night you have venting
dreams.
Your venting dreams will be about attributes
that would hinder you from fulfilling what you
dreamed earlier.
These are usually the crazy dreams we have
just before waking. Sometimes they are so bi-
zarre we think we need deliverance. But the
dreams are not literal and they are not what
you want. This is your mind and heart attempt-
ing to release (vent) those things that hold you
back.
When you awaken after one of these dreams
immediately use your authority. “I release all
that is meant by this dream and I choose to live
my personal goals.”
Do this every night until the attribute you are
writing becomes your absolute reality or until you
have a release in your heart.
Then choose other areas of your life to apply this
process.

Session 9
The Great Exchange
In this session there are no blanks. Write your own
notes; capture what is speaking to your heart!
Let’s review
Remember we can only grasp truth within the para-
dox.
We are applying eternal truth in a temporary
world.
We are seeking to apply God’s Word from the
motive of love.
Within each truth is a paradox which means keep-
ing our heart open to the Holy Spirit.
Example: I am saved and I am being saved. I am
righteous and I am putting on righteousness.
We are walking in guiding principles of the mystery
of the Kingdom of God.
A mystery is something hidden and revealed in stag-
es.
The next stage only becomes apparent with the
full comprehension and dedication to the current
stage.
The Kingdom of God is a mystery (Mark 4:11).
Christ in you is a mystery (Colossians 1:27).
The wisdom of God is a mystery (1 Corinthians
2:7).
Faith is a mystery (1Timothy 3:9).
NOTES

35805. Duplication without written permission is absolutely
prohibited.
Godliness is a mystery (1 Timothy 3:16).
Lawlessness is a mystery (2 Thessalonians 2:7).
When we take the step that is before us the next step
will become evident.
As I apply in faith the truth I do know I will discov-
er the truth I do not yet know.
I can only manifest in the natural realm what my
heart has taken hold of in the Kingdom realm.
Example:
John 1:12, But as many as received Him, to
them He gave the right to become children of
God, to those who believe in His name:
Received: lambano; take hold of and bring to
one’s self
Right: authority
Believers have the authority to live as sons and
heirs of God.
If they do not use their authority that will not
manifest what is legally given.
Legally all the inheritance becomes ours the
moment we receive Jesus, functionally they are
all apprehended by faith.
The finished work of Jesus is one of the great para-
doxes.
Jesus’ work is finished, ours isn’t.
We attempt to make eternal realities fit into our
finite concepts of time and space.
There is a serious error floating through the body of
Christ today that says:
Since Jesus already reconciled the world to
God the entire world is in Christ.
NOTES
96 © Dr. Jim Richards, 3516 S. Broad Place SW, Huntsville, AL

First and foremost, this error ignores the hun-
dreds of Scriptures which teach that every per-
son enters into Christ by his or her own faith.
It ignores the logos principle: any logos cannot
contradict any other logos.
It also tries to interpret an eternal reality in the
temporal concepts of time and space with natu-
ral thinking.
God’s work is eternal, it has no time.
God doesn’t dwell in the realm of time.
But we experience God’s truth in our sense of
time.
Even though Jesus has completed His part of the
exchange we haven’t until we believe, confess
and receive.
Even though all men’s sins have been paid for, not
all men are saved.
Even though Christ died for all, not all men are in
Christ.
Jesus used His faith to win all the battles. We use
our faith to believe we are in Him and share in
those victories.
We have been reconciled.
What it means to be reconciled to God
The word “reconcile” means “to buy back, to
trade two things of equal value, an exchange”
The exchange began at the cross
Isaiah 53
2 Corinthians 5:17-21, Therefore, if anyone is in
Christ, he is a new creation; old things have

passed away; behold, all things have become
new.
We are a new creation by birth, even when it isn’t
manifesting.
18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled
us to Himself through Jesus Christ,
All these things were initiated by God because of
His great love for man.
…and has given us the ministry of reconciliation
There would be no ministry of reconciliation if all
men were in Christ.
19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the
world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to
them, and has committed to us the word of recon-
ciliation.
Man’s trespasses are not imputed to them because
they were imputed to Jesus.
This is the basis for the Covenant of Peace.
Our message should be one of reconciliation:
what God has done to buy us back and give us the
life He always desired for us to have.
Jesus used His faith to conquer death, Hades, the
grave and the devil and to take hold of resurrection
life.
His work is finished.
We take hold of and bring this to ourselves
through our faith.
Entering the exchange by faith
20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ,
as though God were pleading through us: we

with me based on trust.”
~ James B. Richards
implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled
to God.
Jesus already reconciled the world.
But Paul was begging the non-believer to enter
into the exchange.
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be
sin for us, that we might become the righteous-
ness of God in Him.
This is the essence of the exchange.
This only occurs by believing the truth about
the death, burial and resurrection and confess-
ing Jesus as Lord.
Then each aspect of the exchange is walked
into daily, moment by moment, event by event,
decision by decision and thought by thought.
The place of the exchange: communion
That the communication of thy faith may be-
come effectual by the acknowledging of every
good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus
(Philemon 6).
Communication: koinania, when two people
share together what only one actually owns
Effectual: active, operative: “activity" or
"energy", causing something to happen to be at
work, "to act or start to act,"
Acknowledging: gnosis, experiencing
We must enter into our *HeartZone and experi-
ence all the good things we have as a result of
being in Christ.
This is where we become one with Jesus.
This is where we wrap ourselves around, become

entwined with and become one with Christ.
But those who wait on the Lord shall renew
their strength; They shall mount up with wings
like eagles, They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31).
Communion is not connecting with the information,
but connecting with the One who made the infor-
mation real.
It has to be the joining of information and emo-
tion.
It must be the place we experience our new iden-
tity as being real at this moment.
Everything you have learned in the seminar is a pic-
ture of what you can become, a light showing you
the path, but this information is not life.
Jesus is the life and the life is the light of man
(John 1:4).

around you the most important things you will
