ORIGINAL HISTORICAL RESEARCH

“The Tet Offensive: A Measure of U.S. Policy in Vietnam” paper submitted for American History Since1933, New York University, May 9, 1977.

Using recently declassified CIA documents which had never been accessed by outside researchers before, the author

discovered information on Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troop strength that contradicted figures quoted by the U.S.

military in 1967 and 1968. This paper was written more than 4 years before CBS’s Sixty Minutes produced a show on

January 22, 1982, using the same information to criticize U.S. commander William Westmoreland, resulting in a famous

lawsuit from Westmoreland against CBS.

“A Social History of Popular Amusements in New York City, 1750”

paper submitted for Colonial America, New York University, May, 1978.

In this paper, the writer provides original research establishing the existence of the earliest

known American professional theatrical company, the Murray-Kean Company, which staged

plays in Philadelphia in 1749 and New York in 1750. Historians writing prior to this research date the first native-grown American theatre companies to no earlier than the late

1770’s.
