I became a member of the Academy of Finance: the magnet program at Overlea High which focuses in business as a major. I never found business practices interesting until being introduced to the program and becoming a member. I now know that business practices will be highly beneficial when dealing with any promising career.

I also participated in the Loch Raven Model Congress with the students of my Honors American Government class and received an award for Best in Committee in the House of Representatives for delegating reformations in inner city recreation centers.

National Youth Leadership Forum on

Medicine I was accepted into the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine as a summer studies program at Emory University in 2007.  While at the program, I had the privilege to attend many lectures and speeches by medical students and resident physicians, watch several demonstrations of actual surgeries, and participate in numerous surgical exercises.  This provided rich academic and practical depth in my thought and decision making process.

I continued to be on the Honor Roll and an active member of the Academy of Finance, going job shadowing with the other AOF juniors and participating in a summer internship to fulfill my requirements. I was also voted Most Likely to Succeed by the AOF juniors for superlatives.

DECABefore joining DECA, I was enrolled in

a marketing course which interested me in expanding my marketing experiences. I competed in the DECA Regional Competition where my partner and I received third place in Travel and Tourism. Through this victory, Overlea High School received first place in the overall competition.

I have been notified that I again have been merited Honorable Mention in the Maryland Distinguished Scholar Program. It feels good to know that I have been able to make such a big difference in my community and to be commended by the entire state of Maryland on my academics twice within 2008.
