Y = 1.0 or full credit (year-long) H = 0.5 or half credit

Degree Requirements HBA & HBSc

• 100 level, or introductory credits can be taken in any year of study, not just in first year of university.

• Some 100 level credits have high school pre-requisites. Check the UTM calendar. (i.e. BIO152H requires a minimum 70% in Grade 12 4U Biology)

No more than 6.0 100 level credits

• These are advanced level senior credits at the third and fourth year level. i.e. ENG300Y (1.0), HIS478H (0.5), BIO360H (0.5).

• Most senior level credits have first or second year university courses as pre-requisites.

• 300 and 400 level credits are usually taken in the last two years of university.

Complete at least 6.0 300 or 400 level credits

• A program is a group of courses concentrated in one area of study (i.e. English major), offered by an academic department.

• Programs of Study (Subject POSt) are approved after successful completion of 4.0 UTM credits .

• Some programs have entry requirements which include specific first year prerequisite courses and specific CGPA for entry.

Programs of Study

• There are three kinds of programs: Specialist (9.0 to 16.0 credits)

Major (6.0 to 8.5 credits)

Minor (4.0 credits)

• Students must choose a program combination:

1 specialist (one area of study) OR

2 majors (two areas of study) OR

1 major + 2 minors (three areas of study)

• 7.0 + 8.0 = 15.0 credits total between programs

• 15.0 – 12.0 distinct credits = 3.0

• In this example a student can share a maximum of 3.0 credits. The student is sharing only 2.0.

12.0 Distinct Credits (1 major & 2 minors)

• All students must complete one credit (or two half credits) from each of the following divisions within their 20.0 credits.

• The distribution category for each course is listed in the UTM Calendar beside the course title:

i.e. ANT241Y5 - Aboriginal Peoples of North America (SSC)

• Courses used for your program can count for distribution requirements.

• Distribution requirements do not have to be completed in first year.

Distribution Requirements

• A three letter designator is: ENG, BIO, FAH, FAS, PSY, SOC etc.

• 20. 0 credits are required a HBA or HBSc. degree. No more than 15.0 full credits (or 30 half credits) can start with the first same three letters.

• You can view your total credit count and CGPA on ROSI

under “Transcripts, Acad. Hist.”

• If you are unsure, contact an Academic Advisor in the Office of the Registrar.

Completion 20.0 credits with a CGPA of at least 1.85

• When students complete a university credit, the course shows up on their ROSI record with a final grade (i.e. B-, 71%).

• UTM students can apply for up to 2.0 UTM credits to be listed as CR /

NCR, instead of a grade. • Students must get a final grade of 50% or higher for a credit (CR); below

50% appears as no credit (NCR)

• CR / NCR elective courses do not affect your CGPA. CR (credit) courses also count for degree requirements towards graduation, but cannot be used for program requirements.

• Apply for CR/NCR online by the last date to drop F, S and Y for that particular course on this website: http://www.utm.utoronto.ca/registrar/forms (not ROSI).

Credit / No Credit (CR / NCR)

• Students can apply for a LWD to drop a course after the academic drop deadline has passed.

• To access the LWD site go to:
