THE Chimes MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH
AUGUST 2015
Dear Friends in Christ, Thank you! Thank you for a generous vacation time that allows for refreshment and rest. It was a great time, lots of company and some alone time as well. Pam and I are grateful.
Thank you for a great Vacation Bible School week. Even though I don't feel intimately in-volved, it can wear out an aging pastor! Our volunteers, as always, stepped up and got the job done...and had some fun doing it! (See the list of those who helped on page 3).
Thank you to all those who participated in remodeling the Library. Check it out! Much thought and hard work was put into it, and supporting funds came from Thrivent for which we are grateful. Those involved were: Ernestine Grunau, Charles Schroeder, Al Sunday, Doug Travers, Glen & Peggy Treibs, Richard & Bee Troxell, and Tammy Jo Turner. To complete the project fully, you may contact Al Sunday to see how you can help.
Thank you for your kindness to Jui-Chen Huang as she left us on July 26. She was deeply moved by your response in every way, and I am grateful for the way you reached out to her.
And thank you in advance for your work on our annual BBQ Benefit. It is a little earlier, a lit-tle different, and a little easier...and you can buy your tickets NOW and save a buck! Tell your friends, let's make this the best BBQ EVER!
Thank you, and see you in church. Faithfully yours,
Volunteers at Zion, you guys were GREAT! We had a wonderful time getting to know you all. We think it is safe to say that without you, the day camp would not have been near as much of a success.
Thank you for all the meals, the fun and help with the kids. We are so thankful for you!

School Supplies Needed WE ARE IN NEED OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO FILL OUR
LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF BACKPACKS!!!
In order to take advantage of the sale prices on school supplies, you are asked to check out the “BACK TO SCHOOL” display in the Atrium of the Fellowship Hall as well as the one in the Narthex beginning Sunday, August 9. There will be school buses, apples and school houses listing the items and quantities needed to fill our LWR Backpacks. Please pick-up as many as you would like, and after purchasing the items, please put them in the large container in the Atrium marked LWR School Supplies. It is important to purchase exactly what is listed. We will collect supplies through September 20th.
What a wonderful way to reach out to those less fortunate. Questions may be directed to Dor-cella Sunday.
Thank you for assisting us in this worthwhile project. ~Laborers of Love

SPECIAL CONCERN FOR AUGUST The Good Samaritan Center is a local non-profit clinic dear to the heart of many of our mem-bers. Many of our members are ardent supporters of this charity and for good reason. It is a local effort to provide medical care and consultation to those members of our community uninsured and unable to find affordable health care. The Good Samaritan began as a “Free Clinic” in 1992. They started using a new electronic health record (EHR) on April 7, and over the first eight weeks the medical clinic served nearly 600 unduplicated individuals. They see between 1,000 and 1,100 indi-viduals a year for around 2,100 medical appointments. As you know, the Good Samaritan Center does not accept any state or federal monies. Sev-enty (70) percent comes directly from you our faithful and generous donors. They sincerely hope you feel the honor and respect they have for you as partners in their work to provide affordable health care to our neighbors in need. They thank you, and bless you.
THANK YOU NOTES CONTINUED
Thank you for your recent gift of $1,120 to the Nepal Area Earthquake. Gifts like yours make it possible for our church to continue its effective and efficient response to disasters. Thank you for providing help, hope and healing.
~In Christ’s service, the Rev. Daniel Rift, Director Disaster Appeal, ELCA
