SPACE AND PLACE WAS A HABITATION PROJECT IN SAVANNAH, GA TO COMMEMORATE AND HONOR THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF AFRICAN AMERICANS TO THE CULTURAL, SOCIAL, EDUCATIONAL,ECONOMIC AND SPIRTUAL LIFE OF THE SAVANNAH COMMUNITY. DOOR+WINDOW THIS PROJECT CHALLENGETHE INVESIT IGAT ION OF MATERIAL ITY AND THE MEANING OF DOOR AND WINDOW. THE SCENARIO WAS TO DESIGN FOR A CL IENT WHO HAPPENS TO BE A ART COLLECTOR/ WRITER. IT WAS A SMALL WAREHOUSE THAT WAS TO BE CONVERTED INTO A RETREAT FOR HERSELF. MY CONCEPT ON APPROACHING THIS NEED WAS TO DESIGN THE DOOR, WINDOW AND SPACES TO THE CL IENT’S PROPORTIONS. STUDYING CORBUSIER’S MODULOR MAN DESIGNING TO THE PORPORTIONS OF MAN. FROM WHICH I FOUND MY OWN TWIST AND DID IT TO THE PROPORTIONS OF A FEMALE WITH ONE ARM RAISED.

T H E C A N T I L E V E RIS A TWO WEEK GROUP PROJECT WHERE THE TASK AT HAND IS TO DESIGN AND BUILD A FULL SCALE CANTILEVER THAT SHOULD BEDESIGN TO HOLD THREE S IX BY S IX CONCRETE CUBES. THE CANTILEVER IS TO EXTEND THIRTY INCHES OFF THE SECOND FLOOR BALCONY. ONE BLOCK WAS TO BE HELD AT THE END OF THE CANTILEVER AT F IFTHTEEN INCH-ES AND THE OTHER TWO BLOCKS PLACED ON THE CANTILEVERACCORDING TO OUR DESIGN INTENT. OUR CANTILEVER WAS CONSTRUCTED USING THE C-N-C ROUTER TO MAKE THE ARMS OF THE CANTILEVER AS WELL AS THE WOOD WASHER MADE TO CREATE SEPARATION BETWEEN THE ARMS.

T H E TA B L E D E TA I L WAS A TWO WEEK PROJECT WHERE WE HAD TO DESIGN AND BUILD A FULL SCALE TABLE OUT OF THE MATERIALS OF OUR CHOICE. FOR MY TABLE I CHOSE WOOD, GLASS, AND STEEL. THE WOOD ELEMENTS ARE COMPOSED OF CHERRY WOOD RIBS THAT MAKE UP THE BODY OF THE TABLE WITH WALNUT WASHER THAT WORK AS SPACERS. BOTH OF THESE ELEMENTS WERE CONSTRUCTED BY THE C-N-C ROUTER. THE GLASS IS A 3/8” TH ICK GLASS; AT ONE END TOUCHES WOOD AND AT THE OTHER TOUCHES STEEL. THE STEEL MEMBRANES ARE THE MOST-DEL ICATE DUE TO THEIR S IZE, BUT BECAUSE OF THEIR NATURE THE STRONGEST AS THEY HOLD UP MOST OF THE WEIGHT ON BOTH ENDS. ESSENTIALLY THIS TABLE MAKES A CYCLE WHERE ALL THREE ELEMENTS TOUCH.

CABINET OF CUROSITY WAS AN E IGHT WEEK PROJECT WHERETHE S ITE IS LOCATED IN NEW YORK CITY ’S H IGHL INE LOT ON THE CORNER OF 10TH STREET AND 18TH AVENUE. THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO HOUSE LOCAL ART, AS WELL AS, A RESTAURANT, THEATRE, AND V IST ING ART WORK. THIS PROJECT EXTENDS THROUGH SIX LEVELS. THE D IFFERENT EXTRUDED VOLUMES WORKS INCON-JUNCTION TO PROVIDE A PEDESTRIAN FR IENDLY BUILD ING FROM THE INTERI-OR AND ON THE EXTERIOR. WITH VOL-UMES EXTENDING OUT TO PROVIDE PROTECTION FROM THE ELEMENTS BY PROVID ING AN OVERHEAD CONDIT ION. PROVID ING A MID-LEVEL BETWEEN THE H IGHL INE AND THE STREET LEV-EL OFFERS EVERYDAY COMMUTERS A CHANCE TO EXPERIENCE THE BUILD-ING’S RESTAURANT, AS WELL AS USING THE BUILD ING AS A GATEWAY INTO THE H IGHL INE.
