The project business_mail addresses the needs of supplies/sales personnel of small enterprises (SE) having or wishing to establish business contacts with foreign contractors/clients. Staff in charge of business communication in SEs do not usually have adequate skills in terms of practical knowledge of a foreign language or intercultural competence needed to establish and maintain business contacts. Very few of these firms can afford to employ professional import/export staff, in most cases these tasks are taken by personnel not properly trained. Language schools offer mostly general foreign language courses.

Tailor-made courses for businesses are few, expensive and usually inaccessible to personnel of SEs: the courses organized at work place are usually run for larger enterprises. A busy schedule of work in SEs usually excludes their staff from participation in on-site courses at language schools, which require regular attendance over a long period of time.

The business_mail project involving English teachers, communication skills trainers and e-learning experts develops appropriate measures to address the above situation:! sets up an e-learning platform for the design and

delivery of business communication skills! designs a set of on-line modules in the above domain! delivers a pilot on-line course in business English

and intercultural communication (ICC) to employees of SEs

! evaluates the efficiency of the training in different cultural and business contexts

The final product of the project will be a validated on-line course in business English and ICC covering the actual communication problems encountered in import/ export practice of SEs. The projects results will be exploited by each of the partners and widely disseminated in the lifelong learning community in Europe.

Il progetto business_mail intende affrontare i bisogni del personale di vendita/rifornimento di piccole imprese (PI) che hanno o desiderano avere contatti commerciali con clienti/imprenditori stranieri. Nelle PI il personale incaricato alla comunicazione commerciale spesso non ha né abilità e conoscenze pratiche sufficienti in una lingua straniera, né una competenza interculturale tale da poter stabilire e mantenere contatti commerciali. Solo poche di tali ditte possono permettersi di impiegare uno staff professionale di import/export; nella maggior parte dei casi tali compiti sono assunti da personale non appositamente formato. Scuole di lingua offrono per lo più corsi generali di lingua straniera.

Pochi sono i corsi su misura per il commercio, sono costosi e spesso inaccessibili al personale di PI: i corsi organizzati sul posto di lavoro sono, infatti, per imprese più grandi. Inoltre un fitto calendario di lavoro nelle PI esclude solitamente i dipendenti dal partecipare a corsi che richiedono una frequenza regolare per un lungo periodo.

Il progetto business_mail, coinvolgendo insegnanti di Inglese, formatori in abilità comunicative ed esperti in e-learning, sviluppa misure appropriate per affrontare la situazione esposta, attraverso:! una piattaforma di e-learning per il disegno e

l'erogazione di corsi di formazione alla comunicazione commerciale

! una serie di relativi moduli online! un corso pilota online in Inglese Commerciale e

Comunicazione Interculturale (ICC) indirizzato a dipendenti di PI

! la valutazione dell'efficienza della formazione in diversi contesti culturali e commerciali.

Il prodotto finale del progetto sarà un corso online validato in Inglese Commerciale e ICC che coprirà i problemi di comunicazione effettivamente incontrati nella pratica di import/export nelle PI. Ogni partner userà i risultati del progetto disseminandoli ampiamente in Europa nella comunità di apprendimento continuo.
