NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION

Sometimes people say right words , but their eyes tell something else and betray their true feelings.Non verbal communication is the type of communication , where “ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS “

YOU CANNOT NOT COMMUNICATE !!!COMMUNICATION IS A VERY

VAST FIELD AND THERE IS ONE SPECIAL FIELD WHICH DESCRIBES THE ABOVE QUOTE.

AND THE FIELD IS NAMED AS :

KINESICS

WHAT DOES THE WORD SUGGESTS ?KINESICS is the way the body

communicates without words or simply through various body parts.

In other words KINESICS is the name given to the study of body’s physical movements.

EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION STRATEGIES

KINESICS plays a vital role in improving the style of giving presentations.

Let’s see how this happens !

DESCRIPTION WE COMMUNICATE JUST BY BEING ! Nodding head, blinking eyes, shrugging

shoulders, waving hands etc. are the forms of communication only.

Now during presentations both verbal and non verbal communication play an equal role in conveying the message.

BODY LANGUAGE SOME IMPORTANT POINTS REGARDING A

PERFECT BODY LANGUAGE : Do not shy away from the person with

whom you are speaking. Be sure to maintain a relaxed, but not

slouching posture, regardless whether you are the one speaking or listening .

Making eye contact. Standing with hands clasped in front of

you, never crossing your arms.

PERSONAL APPEARANCE Personal appearance plays an important

role . As we all are aware of the fact that “PEOPLE SEE YOU BEFORE THEY HEAR

YOU” Appearance includes clothes,

hairs, cosmetics, jewellery etc . Actually appearances communicate how

we feel about ourselves and how we want to be viewed.

POSTURE Posture generally refers to the way we

hold ourselves when we stand, sit, or walk. You need to analyse the effects of body

shape and posture . Standing, sitting, or walking in a relaxed

way is a positive posture , so try to inculcate a habit of doing the same.

Neither remain static nor fidget, move occasionally to hold attention.

A very effective way of improving posture is to carefully watch the postures of actors and models .

Do you remember Ms Hina Rabbani Khar ?How she impressed everyone with her personality, dressing sense etc ?

GESTURE Gesture is the movement made by hands,

arms, shoulders and head. Open gestures always reveal that the

person is positive, that he trusts you, feels comfortable with you.

Your gesture should be quite natural and spontaneous.

Avoid irritating gestures like playing with a ring, twisting a key chain, folding arms etc.

FACIAL EXPRESSIONS The face is an important part of the

body. A smile stands for friendliness, raised

eyebrows for disbelief, a frown for discontent .

Our face sends a series of messages , it can show anxiety, recognitions, hesitation,

pleasure etc.

EYE CONTACT Eyes are the windows of the souls. Eye contact is a direct and powerful

form of non verbal communication. It shows intensity and elicits a feeling of

trust. Focused eye contact leads to better

concentration .

Since the world is so incredibly diverse and communications come in such a wide variety of forms, it is important to know many appropriate and helpful interpersonal skills. By practicing the few suggestions found here, you will find yourself understanding more of what people say and repeating yourself less to other people. Do not give up on Day One. Your ability to express yourself will grow almost daily as long as you apply yourself in improving communication skills.
