CLASSIFICATION OF LIVING THINGS

The five kingdoms

Classifying living things

• Living things are classified into FIVE KINGDOMS.

• All the living things in the same kingdom have similar characteristics.

Monera kingdom

• Monera are unicellular organisms. They have ONE cell.

• They have NO nucleus

• This kingdom is made up of BACTERIA

Where are bacteria?

• Bacteria are everywhere:• In air• In water• In soil• In animals and people• In food

Bacteria

• Some bacteria are beneficial:

• Bacteria are used to make cheese and youghurt

• Bacteria are used to make medicines

• Bacteria help us to digest food

Bacteria

• Some bacteria are harmful:• Bacteria spoil food

Can we see bacteria?

• Bacteria are very small• We can only see bacteria through a

Microscope• How do they grow?• Bacteria need:• Food• Water• Warmth• time

Hygiene

• Wash your hands well before you eat. Use hot water and soap.

• Keep your nails clean and short.

• Don´t cough or sneeze over food

PROTIST KINGDOM

• PROTIST Kingdom consists of unicellular life forms.

• These cells have a NUCLEUS.• Amoebas and paramecium and algae

are in the Protista Kingdom.

FUNGUS KINGDOM

• FUNGI Kingdom is made up unicellular or multicellular organisms This kingdom include:

• Mushrooms• Fungus• Yeast

mushroom

• Mushrooms are multicellular organisms

• Yeast is an unicellular organism• Fungi can´t make their own food

mushroom

PLANTS KINGDOM• PLANTS Kingdom are made up of

multicellular organisms• They make their own food by taking

energy from the Sun. This is called Photosynthesis

• Plants move certain parts looking for water and light

• Some algae are considered plants because they can make their own food

• PLANTS can be classified into:• Flowering plants• Non-flowering plants

ANIMAL KINGDOM

• All Animals are multicellular• They feed on other living things

• Animals take oxygen from the air and give out carbon dioxide. This process is called respiration

ANIMAL KINGDOM

• Animals can move and use the senses to interact with their environment

ANIMAL KINGDOM

• Animals can be classified into:
