WEEKDAY MASS
Weekday Mass is the most blessed way to spend a half hour each day in the company of Our Blessed Lord in His holy sacrament. I do encourage those of you who do not work ‘regular office hours’ to think of giving the Lord that bit of time on some weekdays. It is a precious gift from our hearts to the Lord to offer Him the daily Mass as well, at least when we are able. It will make all the difference!

CHURCH OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
FLINT
Gospel Reflection for the Third Sunday of Easter
New Lease of Life
Ever been entrusted with a big job and completely messed up? If you’ve
made big mistakes in the work place, the chances are that you won’t be
entrusted with that job again. If you make a mistake in family circles, the
people who love you most probably will give you a second chance but
they might be keeping a watchful eye on you just the same.
In the days after Jesus’ death and resurrection Peter must have been
suffering huge guilt. He had been one of Jesus’ most ardent followers
and yet it was Peter who had denied Jesus three times during his arrest
and trial. When we have had a difficult or traumatic time it is human
nature to retreat into our comfort zones. This is exactly what Peter is
doing in today’s story. Jesus might have hoped that his disciples would
be out and about spreading the good news, but Peter is back on the lake
doing what he knows best.... fishing!
When we hit difficult times in our lives and all we are able to do is hide
from the world, what we need most is for someone to give us a helping
hand. What we might need is for someone to let us know that we are still
valued. When we give someone who has lost their self esteem a special
job, we can give them a new lease of life.
In today’s gospel Jesus appears to Peter and the disciples from the shore
whilst they are out fishing. Peter, as impetuous as ever, jumps into the
water and swims to meet him. The others follow in the boat. On the shore
Jesus takes some bread, and some fish that his disciples have just caught,
and they share a simple meal. Then Jesus turns to Peter and asks “Do you
love me?” Three times he asks the same question, and three times Peter
replies that he does. It’s as though Jesus is giving him the opportunity to
make amends for his three denials. Jesus is offering more than
forgiveness. He’s offering healing and recovery. Then he says to Peter
“Feed my lambs,” and “tend my sheep.” Jesus gives Peter an important
job, the job he has been training him for all along – to give the growing
community of disciples his support , guidance and leadership. It isn’t
hard to imagine how delighted Peter must have felt on this day. Perhaps
he hadn’t let Jesus down after all. Jesus still loved him and valued him.
This was Peter’s big second chance and new lease of life.

APPEAL FOR NEW MEMBERS
The Flint SVP group would like to make a direct appeal to all parishioners to seriously consider volunteering to join our parish group.
The SVP is a non-denominational Christian society founded by a young Parisian student Frederic Ozanam nearly 200 years ago .His Christian student group were challenged by their peers:-
‘Prove the worth of your faith not in just fine words but ‘show us your works’.
His fellow students took up that challenge adopting St Vincent De Paul as patron of their new group with a clear objective:
SVP Vision, which is inspired by Christ's message to love our neighbour as ourselves, is for individuals and families who are in any form of need to have hope together with a sense of dignity, worth, well-being and peace of mind.
We are a very small group in Flint working discreetly within the local community to try to reach out to those in need whether they be lonely seeking companionship (e.g. visits) or in a practical way to those facing hardship.
Currently the effectiveness of our work is limited by our numbers and the need in our local area is acute and really stretching our resources to help the many individuals and families in need.
Please consider carefully our appeal as you can be either be a full SVP member or co-opted to help in a practical way e.g. recent appeal for parishioners to transport the housebound to Mass.
If interested or you would like to know some more about the work of the SVP please place your name and contact phone number on the list in the porch or ring the Parish
office on 01352 732245 Thank you

Pope Francis's Prayer
Intention for May Pope Francis has gone to Africa several times since his first visit in November 2015. The Majority World, the global south, has been a focus of his apostolic journeys. But he does not go to proselytise, to convert. On his most recent visit to the predominantly Muslim
country of Morocco, he asked Catholics to avoid trying to convert people, saying this "always leads to an impasse". "The issue of migration will never be resolved by raising barriers," he said in a speech. Once again, he is hoping and praying that the Church may be that “seed of unity” rather than a proselytising competitor among religions vying for the allegiance of people. This month we are invited to join in Pope Francis's prayer intention '...That the Church in Africa, through the commitment of its members, may be the seed of unity among her peoples and a sign of hope for this continent.'
