Combining smooth grooves with powerful lyrics and infectious hooks, this singer/songwriter’s soulful brew of pop music has earned him a rapidly growing national fan base. His funk-infused acoustic sound has drawn comparisons to everyone from Stevie Wonder and Marc Broussard to John Mayer, and he’s opened for Top 40 R&B artists T-Pain and Sean Kingston.

There’s No Place Like Cottey!
On behalf of the Student Life staff, we would like to thank each and every member of the Cottey community for all of their hard work and WARM hospitality welcoming our new students and their families. A special thanks to our partners in Enrollment Management for all of their planning and help throughout the weekend. Angela and Amber did an outstanding job of orienting, scheduling, and thanking our outstanding Orientation Leaders who are also Golden Keys.
Thanks also to all of the faculty and staff who came out of Friday to meet, greet, and carry—“It was wonderful to have help carrying items into the dorm room!” commented one parent. Another parent said, “Wonderful welcome! My daughter is in loving, supportive hands!” And this parent summed it all up with, “Well organized and put together. Everyone involved was helpful, kind, and accommodating. I feel my daughter will blossom here in so many ways. Thank you for making all of this happen for her!”
There really is no place like Cottey! Thank you so much!!

Human ResourcesEmployee Training
Employees will be receiving an email from Betsy McReynolds, director of human resources regarding mandatory training in September. This will be an on-line training course through United Educators and will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The training topic is the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (SaVE) Act, which seeks to address the violence women face on college campuses nationwide. SaVE will complement the Title IX Guidance by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. This legislation also updates the Jeanne Clery Act.
Originally known as the Campus Security Act, the
Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (20 USC § 1092(f)) is the landmark federal law that requires colleges and universities across the United States to disclose information about crime on and around their campuses. The law is tied to an institution’s participation in federal student financial aid programs and it applies to most institutions of higher education both public and private. The Clery Act is enforced by the United States Department of Education.
