Can you make a difference?

Austin Gutwein

He is 13 years old

And he has made a difference

So what did Austin do to make a difference?

He had a powerful idea and acted on it.

He learnt that every day 2057 children are orphaned by AIDs.

He got people to sponsor him to shoot free throws

He shot 2057 free throws, one for each orphan

Hoops for Hope has now built 2 schools and 2 hospitals in Africa.

If you get involved it will not only help others it will help you too.

An activist is someone who is involved in trying to bring about

change

An IST ACTIVIST is an individual or group trying to create positive change in our school, local, or global community

Examples

• Teen Act for AIDs• Roots and Shoots• LDME• Student council

A framework for getting involved

Identify an issue/passion

Research/ investigate the issue

Identify a way to become active on the issue

Plan a course of action

Implement the course of action

Evaluate and reflect on the action

So find something you are passionate about
