PAC is collecting donations (for parents, kids, jewelry boxes, CD/DVDs and
gift bags) for the Holiday Sale on December 8th. No stuffed animals please. Donations can be dropped off in the office or Rm 111 with Ms. Rhonda.
Cold Weather - with the onset of cold weather, it is our philosophy to encourage students to participate in all activities, including outdoor recess. Please send your child dressed for outdoor weather. Recess is only held indoors when it is –28C or colder, or when it is raining heavily.
Outerwear please note that we do NOT currently have a supply of mitts, gloves, hats or scarves to hand out to students who have forgotten theirs at home. It is your responsibility to ensure that your child(ren) are sent to school dressed appropriately to go outside at recess times.
We are collecting donations for students to use, should an emergency arise. Please see Ms. Rhonda if your child needs a coat from Koats for Kids.
Principal’s Message
Report cards will be sent home with students on Tuesday, November 13th. We look forward to seeing you at Parent Teacher Conferences on November 15th & 16th. This is an opportunity to celebrate your child as a learner. After consultation with Parent Council, we have decided to change the format of our conferences from Tri-Conference to a private Parent-Teacher conference instead. Conferences will be scheduled for 15 minutes with the parents/guardians and the teacher, your child’s attendance to this meeting is optional.

Room 139 has been invited to participate in a program called Roots of Empathy. This program teaches children about their own feelings and the feelings of others. Once every three weeks, baby Lily and her parents will visit room 139. Ms. Bell, a trained Roots of Empathy instructor will gather the children in the classroom around a green blanket and together they will watch the baby grow.
The children predict and cheer when their Roots of Empathy baby reaches the ‘developmental milestones’ of the first year: “she can roll over!” “she got her first tooth!” “she can sit up!” “she can crawl!”
Ms. Bell also coaches the children in observing and reading the cues the baby gives us as to how the baby is feeling: “is the baby happy or sad?” “how can you tell?” and we use this as discussion as a lever for the children to talk about their own emotions and to understand how their classmates feel: “Do you smile when you’re happy?” “how can you tell if your friend is happy?” being able to understand how other people are feeling is called empathy.
We’re excited that we’ve been chosen to participate in Roots of Empathy, and we hope you are too! If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Ms. Bell at Carpathia School.
